I'm not sure which MS version we have because I can't access. The reboot stops when the desktop opens--the desktop looks like it keep refreshing but just flashes for a moment and then goes black. Then it continues to flash. I am unable to open anything other than the browser. It is a very old laptop, however, so I'm sure its an older version. I only need to stabilize long enough to grab some items from the desktop--then it can go in peace

Just to clarify, you would like to stop Microsoft Edge from automatically opening the link you stated, is that right?

If so, I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Open Microsoft Edge.

2. Click the "more"(three dots) option.

3. Click Settings > Open Microsoft edge with/

4. From the drop down list, choose a different option other than "specific page".

Can't open Outlook links in Edge
