Windows 10: Desktop Window Manager "dwm.exe" High RAM Usage - Help

Hi Community,


For some reason desktop window manager in my laptop using a lot of RAM.

My laptop details: Dell Inspiron 15 3576, Intel Core i5 8250U, Intel UHD 620 Graphics, 480GB SSD System Drive, 1TB HDD, 8GB DDR4 2400Mhz RAM.


Whenever I restart the system, for some time like about 2 to 3 hrs, there won't be high RAM usage by dwm.exe but after using the laptop more than 3 hrs then it starts to consume a lot of RAM.

All my system drivers and Windows 10 are up to date.




Please help me regarding this, why it is consuming a lot of RAM and how can we solve this so that it doesn't consume almost 25% of my physical RAM.

Hey everyone,

i got the same Problem since two days. My PC configuration is a Gigabyte 2070 Super 8GB and a Ryzen 7 3700X and ive got every update from Windows and Geforce experience. I am wondering why Windows doesnt said anything to this Problem after seeing this thread
being 20 Pages Long. Does anybody tried These Solutions

First i thought the cause is Google Chrome because it made high gpu and Volt usage too but after an uninstall the Problem was still there.

Is there any Suggestion how to solve the Problem. If this link is working please tell me.

Hi Anthony,

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Privacy - Background Apps

Turn everything off on that page

Restart your PC

Check the RAM usage of DWM . ..
