Windows 10: desktop "wiped out" and I suddenly "start from scratch" WELCOME TO WINDOWS

I have a desktop Dell inspiron, windows 10. the machine itself almost ten years old but generally works well. BUT lately,Every couple of weeks or so, when I turn it on, it

takes forever NOT all the time and when it does come up, sometimes my old desktop icons "disappeared" and everything is from scratch--WELCOME TO WINDOWS, welcome to firefox, etc.-- even my day and time service suddenly become Austin Texas! I'm in California

and yet, even while having a "new from scratch" desktop, my old original desktop can be found at ThisPC-OSC -Users -Eric- Desktop-- though I can't restore it as a desktop, the icons the papers I teach history are there. Been very busy, so I let it go, and yesterday BOOM once again, in turning on it's "back to square one" welcome to windows! all old icons wiped out, etc in an almost bare blue windows desktop screen a few icons like firefox remain

I did note that when this "start from scratch, New desktop when searched for, it's listed as THIS PC-OS C USERS-TEMP- DESKTOP


I should note here I am a boomer, and an NOT "computer wise".. all I want is a normal running machine without going back to SQUARE ONE "WECOME" AND DESKTOP wipe out every seeming 2-3 weeks....

Windows 10 Suddenly Starts to Lag

Windows Update suddenly hangs?

Windows Update is suddenly hanging for some reason... I went and downloaded and installed the first bunch of updates, restarted when asked, and now when I go back to windows update I just get the window with a white box forever. Reboot and it still does it. This happens to be on my main machine, running windows 7.

I've also noticed when I reboot it says configuring windows update, step 3 of 3, 47%. Maybe it somehow skipped something and is screwed forever?

As the above description is not clear, do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

• What is the exactly issue you are facing with audio and how exactly are you trying to access it?
• What exactly do you mean by: Have windows 10, and suddenly my audio stopped?
• Have you made any changes to the operating system, prior to this issue?

I suggest you to install all the pending updates and audio drivers and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to update the audio drivers from Device Manager and check.

Steps:

• 
  Right click on the Start
  button from the desktop and select Device Manager.
  
• 
  Expand Audio inputs and outputs, right click on
  High Definition Audio Device and click on Update driver software.
  
• 
  Also, try to search for the drivers with the help of model number of your computer from the Manufacturer’s website and install them.
  

Step 2: I suggest you to install all the pending updates after upgrade to Windows 10.

• Connect to the internet.
• Press Windows key and type
  updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Windows Updates, click on
  Check for updates.
• Try to install the updates being shown.
