    Device ID and Product ID changed post format.


    I recently formatted my Dell Vostro 3590 which had Windows 10 installed. After the format of the OS i signed in using my Microsoft ID and the Product ID and Device ID of this laptop have changed. This laptop has also picked up the service tags of one of my other Dell Laptops which should not be the case. Can you please advice or point me in the right direction.

    Product ID

    Hi Russell,

    We appreciate the information you've provided regarding the product ID. To resolve your concern, we suggest that you do the following steps:

    • Click on Start and type: Command Prompt.
    • Right click on it and select Run as administrator.
    • Type: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey.
    • Press Enter. That should give you the product key to type in the activation.

    Both device ID and Product ID changing with reinstalls

    It is pretty normal for Product ID to change.

    "The Product ID is a code generated by the computer on which the software is installed, and which describes the installation"

    With regard to Device ID, this should not change unless you change your hardware. Can you please double check?

    I purchased Windows 10 Pro and had to reinstall few more times and kept seeing the product id and device id both changing. Why is that?
