  1. Device in the same local network pings but the other one not.

Hi,I have 2 network devices PLCs connected to a server running on windows server 2012 R. The ip address of my server is 192.168.0.100 whereas as the ip addresses of the 2 different devices connected to it are 192.168.0.251 & 252 respectively with gateway as 192.168.0.1. The issue is that I can ping the device with 192.168.0.251 but not the device with 192.168.0.252.I tried connecting both the devices individually with a different laptop in order to make sure that the ip addresses were intact and both were pinging in this case. Can anyone help in this case.

    :)

  3. Arris TG1682G Comcast Router - How to Network 4 Ethernet Devices

Thank you all for your replies.
I've reached the point where it is time to sleep on them

    - - - Updated - - -

I am trying to analyze this in a step-wise fashion.

I pinged the newer PC from the older one (Win10 pinged by Win7 and saw 1 ms delay.

Am I correct in concluding that from Win7's perspective the Win10 is in a network with Win10.

I did the reverse, Win10 pinged Win7 with the same delay.

I conclude that both see the other as part of the same local network.

I went a step further and ran NetBScanner on the Win7 machine.

It recorded a different IPv4 than a the 'direct lookup' on the Win10 machine. The ping here was an average of 8 ms (14, 9, 9, and <1 in that order.)

I gather it is 'poor form' to reveal IP addresses in posts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that they are unique. Of the two that I have IP4 for the Win10 machine, the one returned by that machine appears related to our Comcast gateway router and the other has the same form as the other machines in the local network. A second try at the ping reduced the average to 5 ms, suggesting that the process is learning.

What do I need to do so that NetBScanner sees the Win10 machine when run on that machine?

Can't Ping VPN Server or Access Shares While Using VPN

I've been dealing with this issue for hours now and have tried everything I can think of. I have a Windows 10 Home PC that I have an incoming VPN connection on. I can connect to it, but if the firewall is enabled, I can't ping it or access the shares. If I turn the firewall off I CAN ping and access shares. It was working fine yesterday and I don't remember doing anything to cause this. I've tracked it down to being something with my Public networks. When I disable the firewall on public networks (the VPN adapter) I can ping, but once I enable that it stops pinging. I've tried everything listed below but still can't get it to work:

    • Checked port 1723 is open
    • Allowed EVERYTHING with a firewall rule, through it
    • Checked multiple devices on another Wi-Fi network and 3G with a phone
    • Restarted PC; other devices and router
    • I can ping every other device on my network besides the one creating the VPN (which is the one I need)
    • and so many other steps.
    • Made sure file and printer sharing were enabled in network and sharing center

Is there some other rule that got removed from the firewall I need to re-add? Any help or tips would be appreciated!
