Windows 10: Device locked by administrator

Hi, I locked my computer via my phone on administration lock. Computer is now telling me "computer locked by an administrator. Ask administrator to unlock". Cannot find anyway to unlock. Help

This misbehavior may happen if there were some changes in the user account control or if there are third-party security software that is running on your computer. To isolate what is causing this to happen, please answer the following questions:

• Were there any recent changes made to your system prior to the issue (updates, software installations, etc.)?
• What error message are you receiving whenever you try to access something that requires administrator’s access?

As an initial troubleshooting, please check if your login has been change to a non-admin user account by following these steps:

• Press Windows key + X.
• Select Control Panel, then click User Accounts.
• Under User Accounts, click Change Account type.
• Select Administrator,
• Click Change Account Type to apply changes.

In this scenario we would suggest you to disable and the enable the
built-in Administrator account using the command prompt from a different administrator user account and check if the issue persist.



Steps to disable and enable the built-in Administrator account.

1. Click on Windows Search/Cortana and type
   CMD, right click on command prompt and select run as admin.
   
2. Type Net user administrator /active:no
   and hit enter key to disable the built-in Administrator account
   
3. Restart the PC and login to the
   Administrator account and perform step 1.
   
4. Type Net user administrator /active:yes
   and hit enter key to enable the built-in Administrator account

You may follow the steps listed below to convert a standard account to an administrator account:

• Login to the existing administrator account.
  
• Press ‘Win + R’ keys together on the keyboard to open the Run dialog and type the following into the Run box:
  netplwiz
  
• Highlight the standard account.
  
• Click on ‘Properties’ and ‘Group Membership’.
  
• Click the radio button for ‘Administrator’ and select ‘Apply’ > ‘OK’.
