    "Generic PnP Monitor".
    That is correct for a Laptop screen. It has not changed.
    Don't waste your time in other words. By all means uninstall but it will only install the same thing again.

    My HP ProBook 450 G3 laptop with Windows 10 Pro has for some reason lost the drivers for the internal laptop display. When I go to Device Manager-Display, I can only see "Generic PnP Monitor". I have used the laptop for 2.5 years and think that this happened recently (from a Windows 10 update?). I have found advice in various forums to uninstall the Generic PnP Monitor and that Windows will find the correct drivers for the display on reboot (or to download the drivers from HP website).

    My question is this: If I uninstall the Generic PnP Monitor by clicking Uninstall in the Device Manager, is there ANY risk that the computer won't recognize the internal display - and that I will be unable to use the computer?
    How is this done: uninstall, reboot, install (or another sequence)? If/when should I install display drivers from HP's website?

    Just need to enable the "Generic PnP" monitor under "Monitors" under Device Manager...

    This worked! I had to do it a little bit differently though; when I went to Device Manager / Monitors, my original monitor was listed as "PnP Monitor (General)". When I disabled this monitor, it did not work. So I instead Uninstalled the Monitor and
    when prompted, deleted the driver too. When I rebooted, Windows 10 automatically installed "Generic PnP Monitor" and the brightness was fixed. I have a VPCSC41FM.

    It is normal to show a generic plug and play monitor for a laptop. The more important part is the video driver. Removing a piece of hardware from the device manager only removes the drivers, when you reboot the laptop, windows will still see the hardware and install drivers for it.

    You can't actually uninstall the Generic PnP Monitor driver - it's built-in to Windows. I just tried it and while it disappeared from Device Manager, it was still there in all the other display-related settings.

    What monitor "driver" are you referring to?
