Windows 10: Device not detecting SSD and HDD

    Hi, I have an old laptop so I replaced the HDD with a SSD windows 10. Since the SSD wasn't being detected , I turned on the legacy support in BIOS and the pc booted. But I have to turn on legacy support every time I turn on my laptop. Also I have installed the HDD in a caddy which isn't being detected in the partition manager. Also my genuine windows is in HDD.

    Automatic repair while booting from hdd and installing windows on ssd.

    1. Migrated windows from hdd to ssd
    2. Formatted hdd
    3. Prioritised boot from ssd in bios
    4. Turned on the pc
    5. Automatic repair

    To deal with this I select boot from a device > then EFI USB device > it says no bootable USB detected, select from these drives > there are few options including the newly installed ssd > I select ssd > then it shows disk checking, press any key to stop > I stop it > windows then boots from ssd.

    It very difficult to repeat all this everytime I turn on my pc. Please suggest a fix.

    SSD detecting as an HDD

    Please open Device manager and show the list of Storage controllers.

    Then open properties of your SSD in Device manager And show Info tab.

    OS on new SSD, keep existing data on HDD and use as external drive

    Hi,

    use steps you suggested, there should be no problem.

    Just replace HDD with SSD first then run installation. Do not forget to remove Windows files from HDD after the end of a process.
