Windows 10: devices page displays 4 identical printers

Suddenly 4 identical printers are shown in devices. None have the green check mark.2 are listed as "network" offline. Suddenly the printer display area has a message: "the printer could not connect with the internet". I have only one HP printer which has been printing and is connected to my Windows 10 desktop for several years. It was working fine.How to know which excess printer should be removed from devices: the network -offline or the 2 that have only the model number displayed?I don't understand the difference in 'offline' and 'online'. iPhone shown as Unspecified in Devices and Printers


Hi Dimitri,

Not sure if this is a help but my iPhone 6/iOS 9.2.1 shows in 'Devices & Printers' as well as 'This PC' identically to your 2 screenshots.....perhaps that is intentional?

I guess this jars on you (it does with me*Sad). I would like to see it suitably listed as say 'Portable Devices' or 'Mobile Devices' and displayed with appropriate custom icons

If it transpires that this is correct, perhaps the forum Gurus could suggest how we might customise Windows 10 to display them in a more 'visibly appealing' format......

Any thoughts guys???

 

How to rename a device on the Devices and Printers page


I have two identical BT headphone sets that show up on the Devices and Printers page as the same name. Is there a way to rename one of them? I could rename one in the Sound properties box, but it did not change in the Devices and Printers page or when I click on the Connect tile in the right side bar. These two locations still show both with the same name.

 

Windows 10 networked printers not showing in Devices and Printers

Hi,

Please let us know, How do you have the printer connected to your computer? It is plugged into USB, on the network, or some other way?

Usually all available printers will be shown directly under Device and Printers.
Moreover it also show the status of the printer. Not sure how this is happening. Suggest you to check this issue by removing and re-installing the printer.

You may try the following methods and check if it helps.

Normally this will happen if the Print Spooler service is not running but then your local machine would display with a red indicator in Print Management.

Method 1:

Please try steps below check if it helps.

• Press Windows + R, type services.msc
  and press Enter.
• Find Print Spooler service and double-click.
• Make sure Print Spooler's
  Startup type set to Automatic.
• The Service status of the Print Spooler should be
  Running.
• If not, can you "Start" the Print Spooler service.
  

If the issues still persist, refer to the below methods.

Method 2: I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2.Then type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.

3. ExpandPrinte Queues.

4. Right click on the driver and click on Uninstall.

5. Restart your Computer.

If the issue still persist, then I suggest you to download and install the latest printer driver from the manufacture website.

Let us know the status of the issue in regards with printers display in Devices and Printers.
