    DFSR Replication Groups missing from DFS Management

    Hi,I am trying to fix a problem that has occurred on our DFS Namespace, it previously ran on a 2008R2 Server but last year we bought two new W2019 Servers to replace them and now we are not seeing the replication groups on our remote node?The primary reference member at our site has the namespace and folder targets as well as the replication groups listed in the DFS Management console with no problem. But the remote server has namespace and folder targets without replication groups, and if I try to right-click in the console window and add the groups I there is no feature to add them?I am real

    :)

  2. Restarting Members of DFS Replication Groups on Server 2016 Standard

    Restarting Members of DFS Replication Groups:

    Hello Guys,

    I would like to understand Best Practice for restarting members of Replication Groups, and would be delighted for the support, as i am unable to locate this information on Microsofts extensive documents base: DFS Replication overview | Microsoft Docs

    We have two Replication Groups configured for sharing their own respective folders, these groups each contain five members of a meshed group.

    What I would like to understand what is the best way to undertake a restart of a member for say a Windows Update (ETA to complete relatively unknown) ?

    I have witnessed some mention that shutting down the DFS Replication Service on a member and restarting the server should be sufficient. However, according to this article (If i am understanding correctly: Microsoft DFS Deployment Considerations & Best Practises | Experts Exchange) it
    states:

    >For any reason if DFSR replicated folder replication need to be stopped, change replication schedule to No Replication. Do not stop DFSR service. It may leads to DFSR database goes in journal wrap state and take much time to recover.

    So am i having to completely stop replication across all groups to restart the member, surely this is overkill?

    I have also noticed there to be the option of Disabling the Member but im not completely sure what scenario this is used for.

    Any assistance is gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Mark

  3. DFS Replication WMI synchronization or connection object not found/ RPC server unavailable

    I have x2 servers for which I would like to now configure DFS Replication from server 1 to server 2, I have already done an initial seed of the data using Robocopy copy which has worked very well. On the server 2 I already have
    DFS namespace configured and the folder targets are working well for the users however I now want to configure a new DFSR group from server 1 to server 2, the replication only needs to be one way so server 1 to 2 is enabled in the DFSR connections but I have
    server 2 to 1 disabled so no data is replicated back to server 1.

    The DFSR Group is created without any issue whatsoever however after the initial root level folders are replicated to server 2 from 1 nothing more happens, actual files are being replicated etc. If I go to select the "Replicate
    Now" option I get the below message;
    DFSR Replication Groups missing from DFS Management a4591b8a-8fa7-47d3-9d80-4fc16442f73f?upload=true.png

    After receiving the above message, I have done a dfs propagation test then checked to see the test results...the results show that the test is "Pending arrival"...researching this issue further and from a variety of sources on the
    web I have run the commands to rebuild the WMI;

    ·
    cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem

    ·
    for %i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %i

    ·
    for %i in (*.exe) do %i /RegServer

    1.
    type cd C:\Windows\System32\wbem\AutoRecover

    2.
    type for /f %s in (‘dir /b *.mof *.mfl’) do mofcomp %s’

    Open a CMD prompt in %windir%\system32\wbem

    type mofcomp dfsrprovs.mof

    net stop winmgmt

    net start winmgmt

    net start iphlpsvc

    net stop dfsr

    net start dfsr

    The above commands have come from multiple sources of information which I have found on the web, I have also checked that “Authenticated Users” have Read rights on the DFSR object within the AD\System\DFSR-GlobalSettings for the
    replication group which I have created, DFSDIAG POLLARD has also been ran – all commands have completed successfully.

    If I then go to select “Replicate Now” I then receive the below error;

    The DFS Replication service is stopping communication with partner server2 for replication group testdfsr due to an error. The service will retry the connection periodically.

    Additional Information:

    Error: 1726 (The remote procedure call failed.)

    I have done a variety of tests and run through a variety of commands to try and resolve this very frustrating issue without success.

    Please let me know if you have any further suggestions on how this issue can be resolved?

    Thanks,
