I'm having problems with connecting to my normal network. It will randomly disconnect and, when trying to reconnect, a message that says "can't connect to this network" appears. Even though the router says there is a connection and all the other devices in the house work fine, my computer doesn't.

In the midst of trying to find the root of the problem, I found that a number of services peak in CPU and memory usage when I disconnect from my network: network location awareness, diagnostic policy service, dns client, network list service and local system network restricted. I looked them up online; one blog post said that peaks in network location awareness might be due to the NIC drivers not being updated, but they are.

This started to happen a few hours after I tried to solve another connection issue I had when gaming online. I ran the following command prompts:

    ipconfig/release

    ipconfig/renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh int ip reset c:\tcp.txt
    netsh winsock reset

And after those, I performed a Network Reset. None of those attemps at solving the first problem problem worked so I gave up, and then the disconnect thing started happening.

    I'm kind of stuck !

    :)

    Group Policy Client Services

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. May I know, which version of Windows is installed on your computer?
    2. Is your system connected to Domain network?

If you are not on a domain network you can try the troubleshooting steps provided below.

    Method 1: Winsock reset.

    1. Start your PC in safe mode.
    2. Once you are on the same mode.
    3. Search for Command Prompt on the Start Menu.
    4. Right click and Run as Administrator.
    5. Type in netsh winsock reset
on the command prompt and hit enter.
    6. Reboot the computer and check.
