  1. Dialog confirmation box hiding behind explorer window problem.

    Hi,

I seen to have this problem for example when I open a folder to browse the files and say I want to copy/delete a particular file, then the confirmation dialog box is hiding behind the main explorer window, so I have to minimise explorer in order to click ok or the appropriate action that is needed.

    Anyone else seen this.
    Thanks
    Joe

    :)

  2. Confirmation dialogs open behind Explorer window

I forgot to mention that I've already updated my Nvidia video card driver to the latest version. Also, this does not only happen in the Explorer. I just opened the Playback Devices menu, clicked on Configure, and the new menu was hidden behind all other
apps that were open at the time.

  3. Confirmation dialogs open behind Explorer window

To confirm that this bug still exists under the default UAC setting, I placed a file and a folder on the desktop and copied the file into the folder. Then I rebooted the PC, because this bug reliably occurs in the first Explorer window that I open after
a boot. I opened the folder, dragged the file from the desktop into the folder to trigger the "Replace or skip files" dialog, and it opened behind the Explorer window.

But I noted that this only occurs when the Explorer window is so large that it covers the center of the screen, where the confirmation dialog pops up. So one workaround for me is to make the window smaller and drag it to one side of the screen. Since the
OS saves the position, the next Explorer instance opens in the same spot. I can live with this for now and reinstall Windows 10 at some point when I have nothing better to do. I originally installed it over Win 8.1, so maybe a fresh installation wouldn't be
    bad idea anyway.

  4. Dialog confirmation box hiding behind explorer window problem.

Yes. I have seen this happening quite often. The issue doesn't appear to be limited to one type of dialog box.I think that none of my operations have had any effect, then after I move a large window I realize that there are several dialogs/questions cued up behind that window. It seems as though the dialogs are not opening ON TOP of all other forms. It is definitely not consistent.

You are definitely not alone. Also bringing forward partially covered windows is sometimes not a single-click process, but is also not consistent.

  6. Do not these boxes show up on the task bar, often blinking for attention? For those that do, clicking there gains focus.

  7. I think you're missing the point. The fact that the dialogs to not appear in front of the forms is the issue.

And, even if/when they do appear in the taskbar (blinking), the taskbar is not always visible based upon user preferences, therefore you still would not know that the dialog is trying to get your attention.

The dialog should appear "Always on Top" of all other windows.

  8. Dialog confirmation box hiding behind explorer window problem.

For me the one that always does it (and did it on W8) is if I use the Control Panel to go into the dialog to free up disk space. The first confirmation is on top, but if I then take the further option to clean up system files the confirmation for that is always behind the Control Panel window. Absolutely repeatable - I just tried it. The task bar does have an extra item for the confirmation but nothing to attract attention, especially since mine is auto-hide.

  9. Yes, having a "combination dialog box" of several dialogs at once seems like a good idea at first, until you realize that some will be hidden below the bottom of the list.

I'm convinced that no one at MS actually was forced to eat their own dog food before 10 was released. I found most of these issues within three days of using it. There is no excuse for the quality of the beta program for 10.

This problem still occurs in Windows 10 Version 1511 Build 10586.494 64 bit. I was trying to delete a folder in explorer and forgot I had cmd.exe open to that folder in a minimized window. I thought my delete key wasn't working, and then I noticed the very slightly "flashing" icon in my taskbar caused by the multiple "this folder is open in another application, what do you want to do" dialog boxes. The fancy new progress box for file copy and transfer operations also opens minimized.

  11. The problem persists in the anniversary update. In fact, I never had this problem before in any Windows version, and I only notice it now in the anniversary edition of Win10. It's especially annoying since some dialog boxes don't show up in the task bar (e.g., "do you want to allow this app to make changes etc.").

If this bug doesn't occur for a while, I tend to forget about it. Then I try to run a newly downloaded executable or import a .reg file, sit there and wonder why it takes so long, click the Explorer window, notice that it's frozen, and think about rebooting the entire system, before it finally occurs to me to hit Alt+Tab. It's really annoying (although not as much as the intermittent Explorer refresh failures, which have also gotten worse since the anniversary update. Or the extremely low frame rate in Second Life and otehr OpenGL games. Is it just me, or is Windows 10 getting continuously worse instead of better?)

  13. Dialog confirmation box hiding behind explorer window problem.

Good to know this problem is not something specific to my PC and that it has been there since the beginning. For me, it seems to manifest whenever the application like File Explorer is maximized.

  15. That setting was never enabled in my File Explorer, so unfortunately not a solution for me.
