Windows 10: Did Clean Reset after many suggestions to. Cannot get to Settings, Security, etc. Need to...

I have an 8.1 machine, PC, bought back when 8.1 was still the top dog. It's gone through the 10 upgrade several years ago and accepted all other following upgrades nicely. Lately though it's been lagging and other things that put me in mind it was probably after all these years full of bloatware and too many programs. So all the suggestions came back to me, Don't Reset. Do a Clean Reset. It went through that process but there are still quirky things going on. Pop ups saying you need other programs to run this. Programs I've never heard of before and didn't need to install ever myself. And also the following quirks which make it a really bad Clean Reset.


So now I feel I'm resigned to go back to the original 8.1 And see what I can rebuild from there.

BUT, now I can't seem to get access to Action Center, Update and Security, all those places where you make the Defaults, look at your Wifi to Ethernet Settings and so on. You know what I mean I'm sure.

I cannot get to Update and Security, Backup. I can not find a way to run them so that I can run Backup and Reset. Just can not find them there anymore or get to them. I've tried every door and window in the house I know having been in Windows since the days before Windows. The cmd prompt ran everything back then.

I'm in a pickle. And knowledge-Head out there that might know what I can do to get this 8.1 reset going? Thanks Very much for any assistance or suggestion.

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

 

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.


First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

Break command list: Break Commands

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".
