  2. Access to UNC path to same machine without network connection - differ in machines

    Hi,

I found out that I can access the shared directory pointing to the same machine using UNC path even though, there is no network connection. This behaviour is different another machine, where I cannot access
the shared directory to the same machine using UNC path without network connection.

What is it that making different machines behaving differently in terms of accessing shared directory that points to the same machine when there is not network connection?

    Kind regards,

    Misbah

  3. Access to UNC path to same machine without network connection - differ in machines

Accessing a shared folder without an active network connection is impossible. I suspect you mean "without mapping a share", e.g. like so:

    net use K: \\OtherPC\Share1

    or

    net use \\OtherPC\Share1

In order find out why you are unable to access a shared folder, you need to report what happens when you try. Use the commands you see above in a console screen (cmd.exe).

Access to UNC path to same machine without network connection - differ in machines

Sorry, I refuse to believe what you report. If you have neither a wired nor a wireless network connection then you will not be able to access any shares on a different PC. You must looking at data that you store locally. To prove it to yourself, to this:

    1. Open the Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center / Change adapter settings.
    2. Disable all adapters.
    3. Disable your bluetooth connections (if you have any)
    4. Check your connectivity.
    5. Create a folder on the remote machine.
    6. Check if it visible on the local machine.
