  1. Difficulty in managing 4 partitions

    Hello all.
I'm currently using Windows 10 and have a 1TB hard disk. It has been divided into 4 parts. One for OS, another for it's drivers, and the rest 2 primary partitions for media storage.

Now, I need to install Ubuntu as well and I'm not sure how to go about it. I have a few queries like: Is it possible to merge the two extra drives together and in turn creating a partition for Ubuntu. Is that even possible. Should the new partition for Ubuntu be logical or primary, and the reason for choosing the same.

Also, I'm new to this forum so I don't know if I'm following the protocol as followed by all. I'd love to receive some advice regarding the above stated problems.

How can I relocate the folder C:\Users to D:\Users in Windows 10?

Your difficulty, pappasa, appears to be that you have come straight from Windows XP to Windows 10 and you are suffering from culture shock. There
is a partition manager in Windows 7, 8 & 10 (I cannot remember about Vista). Go to Disk Manager and you can shrink a partition or expand a partition if there is free space after it. What you
can do in Windows is not as flexible as what full partition manager software permits but it may well be enough to meet your needs. In your case you could use Disk manager to shrink your OS partition then create a new one in the space made available, if that
is what you want to achieve.

    Logical Partition Error

Download and use EaseUS Partition Manager free.

I just this evening re-partitioned a 4TB WD My Book into 4 partitions and did it graphically. One partition at a time.

This contains my new backup partition.

  4. Difficulty in managing 4 partitions

First of all, even though MS calls them "drives", in reality, they are "partitions". This distinction is important to the Linux crowd because they do NOT call them drives. So, if you do that, in Ubuntu, you'll only confuse people.

Second, you need an unformatted space to install Ubuntu, not a Windows filesystem partition. You should consider moving all the stuff from the 2 media storage partitions into one. If either partition is over half full, that's going to take a long time doing a series of moves and resizes until the second media partition is empty. Once that is done, remove the empty media partition. Do NOT create a partition in the empty space because Windows can't create Linux filesystem partitions and that is what you will need.

To continue the installation of Ubuntu into the unallocated space, I suggest you post your question on the Ubuntu Forums.

Might be faster and a lot easier to run Ubuntu as a VM under Oracle VirtualBox or VMWare. The really cool part of doing this is you can then have Ubuntu open in it's own window on the Microsoft Desktop. Performance should be close to native.
