Windows 10: Digital Licensing and Windows 10 reload

I recently lost the Motherboard on one of my pc's. Ordered new hardware ( Board, chip, mem ). Reloaded win 10 and went to activate. Thats where it all went bad.


Went through the changed hardware section. Chose my PC from the microsoft account. And... No license. Called support. Support says to use the installed key. Okay... Dig up my old win 8 key and.... Nope. No go on my key. Call support. Answer is I need to buy a new win 10 key. Pretty angry at this point.


Dug through my old win 7 keys and licensed with an old oem key...


So whats the deal here? My win 8 key was retail? Why can I not reinstall off of it or my digital? Microsoft trying to squeeze money out of us? And support was beyond bad... Pretty much worthless.

Windows 10 will not reload without digital license.

Early adopter of Windows 10. (2015)

Windows 10 crashed during a uSoft update.

Rebuilt from Windows 7.

Windows 10 has crashed again during uSoft update.

Again, reloaded Windows 7.

Cannot reload Windows 10, missing digital license.

Windows 7 key does not work.

How to proceed?
