Windows 10: Direct Access and Windows 11 Clients

I have a basic direct access setup in place that has been working fine for years with Windows 10 clients. I also have a "manage out" group policy set so that a few computers can provide direct support to those connected via direct access and this has also been working fine. Well we're now moving to Windows 11. I've installed my first client and all that and of course things aren't working as expected. I've gotten as far as the client connecting back to our network and their connectivity seems fine. but the "Manage out" portion is not working. I believe the issue to be that the client is NOT re

Setting up direct access to domain or network.

Original title : Microsoft Direct Access.

I am working on setting up Microsoft direct access for my company (unfortunately I have no idea what i am doing). I have a few questions regarding the setup.

1. Does direct access need to be on a domain controller? Can it just be a member server on the domain?

2. How does a client connect to the direct access server?

3. Does direct access require the certificates?

4. Can anyone help me with a simple step by step setup?

Microsoft Direct Access stops working after installing KB5018482 on Windows 10 and KB5018341 on Windows 11

After installing KB5018482 on Windows 10 (21H2) and KB5018341 on Windows 11 clients configured with Direct Access fail to connect and just show as 'connecting'.

When we have removed the above updates clients are then able to connect however functionality is limited and any loss in network connection once a Direct Access connection has been establish results in the device not able to re-establish a connection without a restart, It's also not possible to select a different Direct Access site without the connection failing.

The only way to establish a connection is restart the device.

We have tested on devices which have never had the two updates applied and these connect normally and it's possible to connect to direct access without issue and also lose connectivity and the connection will be re-established. It's also possible to select a different site from the multi-site options and gain a connection.

If anyone could possible suggest any fix issue it would be most helpful.

 

Windows 11 - Direct Access support?

Hi there. I have joined a Windows 11 Enterprise computer to my work-domain for testing (I work in IT), and it seems like the client will not connect to DirectAccess . I have verified that the policies are in place and some elements are working. For example, I get the loginscript running and some network drives. But it seem like it cannot fully connect as there probably is something missing. When I go to settings > Network & internet > DirectAccess, it still says "Connecting".

When I click Collect button for collecting logs, nothing happens.

Anybody successfully running Direct Access with Windows 11?
