Windows 10: Direct connected Creative speakers not working

I have a set of Creative T30 wireless Bluetooth speakers. But they do not work well with my Windows 10 HP Pavilion laptop computer (to my continuous frustration). I have now wired them directly to the audio port on the laptop but sound continues to come out of the computer speaker, not the T30s. How can I get the direct connection working? In the sound settings, the speakers do not appear as an output device. Instead, the output device is “Realtek High Definition Audio).
