Windows 10: Directx 7 games on Windows 10

I would like to consider upgrading to windows 10 however, there is no support for Fullscreen Exclusive Mode for Directx 7 games. Because of the lack of support for these games, Windows 10 locks these games to the monitor's refresh rate which therefore; makes it impossible to enjoy.


Is there any hope that Windows 10 will return Fullscreen Exclusive Mode to the USER'S control?


I'd really like to play these older games.

Directx 7 under Windows 10 issue?

Most games or applications created for older versions of Windows like Windows 7 will still work on Windows 10. However, there are some programs that might run poorly or not at all. Since you have already tried some of the possible solutions that can help
resolve the issue, there is a possibility that the game that you are playing is facing the condition.

The DirectPlay for Managed Code is still supported on DirectX 9.0. On Windows 10, the default version installed on your PC is DirectX 12. Since the game that you are trying play is using DirectX 7, you may
run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter by following the steps on this
link
to automatically detect and fix some of the most common issues. We also suggest that you change the settings on your PC by following the information on the same link under
Compatibility settings.

You can also try to enable the Legacy Components to allow your PC to use the functionality of the DirectPlay.

• Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type
  Turn Windows features on or off.
• In the Windows Features window, look for Legacy Components
  and check it.
• Restart your computer to complete the process and save the changes.

Problem with Windows 10 taskbar and Full Screen games

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps:

Step 1: I suggest you to check the resolution of the game as well as the resolution with in the computer and see if you are able to play the games in full screen.

You can install Windows 8/8.1 drivers in compatibility mode from Manufacturer's website, if there are no Windows 10 compatible drivers.

Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:

• Download the updated driver from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right click the driver installation file and select Properties then tap or click the
  Compatibility tab.
• Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.
  
• Tap the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click
  OK.
• Try installing the driver and check.

Directx not working with games

There is a possibility that the components of DirectX within the game you're trying to play is damaged. For us to provide an accurate solution, we would need you to answer the following questions:

• Which build, version and edition of Windows is installed on your computer?
• Are you experiencing the same issue when you are trying to play all of the installed games on your computer, or is the issue isolated with specific games?
• Are you experiencing the same issue even when you are using other user profiles?

In the meantime, we suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the games that are experiencing an issue with DirectX. Doing so can repair its components. Let us know if the same issue persists.
