DirectX 9 doesn't install on laptop

    Hello JeffKing9,

Just so you are aware that I am a professional computer technician. I have come across this type of situation plenty of times and this can be resolved pretty easy. This depends on the issues you are experiencing. If you have tried what Vijay_Verma suggested
and if it doesn't work for you, then there is another way to solve that problem. In your situation, you are currently using Windows 10 and trying to install DirectX 9. The issue is that DirectX 9 is considered a 'legacy component'. DirectX 11 is the newest
and the latest that is already pre-installed on Windows 10. You should understand that there are two versions of Windows 10, one being the X86 (32-Bit) version which can handle the 16-bit applications, which is what DirectX 9 is. The other version is the X64.
Unfortunately, the X64 version of Windows 10 does not have the capability to handle the 16-bit applications. You should check to see what version you have by going into the 'Control Panel' and find 'System'. It will give you that info. If you have the 32-Bit
version of Windows 10 as shown in 'System', then you are in luck. If you have that version, here is how to do this, point to the Microsoft logo Start Menu, scroll down to 'Windows System' and point to 'Control Panel'. In 'Control Panel' point to 'Programs
and Features'. Look at the left hand side of it and point to 'Turn Windows features on or off'. A pop-up will appear. Look down the list to 'Legacy Components'. Click or tap on the '+' sign to un-collapse. Place a check mark in 'NTDVM' and make sure that 'Direct
Play' is also check marked. Point to the 'Ok' button and close out the 'Control Panel'. You may have to restart your laptop in order for it to take effect. Here is an important note, I would suggest in downloading and installing DirectX 9.0c instead. It is
newer than DirectX 9 but it is still a legacy component and it is here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429
    or you can go here:

    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/ViewBasket.aspx
DirectX 9.0c will over-ride DirectX 9 when you install Roxio VCR to DVD software. Before you install it, I suggest going to the Microsoft Update for related updates for DirectX 9.0c and get them
downloaded and installed before installing the Roxio VCR to DVD software. It should be successfully installed. Another important note is that if you cannot open Roxio VCR to DVD software from its icon, you would need to right-click on that icon by using a
mouse or the built-in mouse pad on your laptop. Select 'Properties' found at the very bottom. A pop-up will appear. Go to the tabs at the top and select 'Compatibility'. In the 'Compatibility Mode' section, select to either 'Windows XP (Service Pack 3)' or
'Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)', then point to 'Apply' button at bottom and point to 'Ok' button. Then close it out and try clicking or tapping on the Roxio VCR to DVD software icon again. It should activate. I wish you luck in this if you have the 32-Bit
    Version of Windows 10. Cheers!

Directx 8.1/9 games not working on Windows 10

    Hi,

DirectX 12 is the latest DirectX version and it is already built-in to Windows 10. If you are trying to play older games on Windows 10, you have to make sure that your compatibility settings are set up properly.

    You can go to this
    link
and change your computer's compatibility settings to make older programs compatible with Windows 10.

Make sure that you install all the critical and important updates on your computer. Check for new updates by following the steps below:

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update . If you want to check for updates manually,
      select Check for updates.
    • Select Advanced options, and then under Choose how updates are installed, select Automatic (recommended).

Keep us updated with the results after performing the suggested solutions above.
