  1. Disable blur effect - not transparency

Is there a way in Windows 10 to disable the blur effect but keep the transparency. (I know there was one in the early builds of Windows 10 when Microsoft was testing the blur effect. )

    :)

I have no transparency in my start menu and window frames but my taskbar does.

As it is, I can barely see any translucency at all. And that's looking at the start menu with a white window on a dark background behind it. The transition between the two slightly different colors is gradual. I wouldn't call it a blur effect. The calculator
app (using the dark theme) has a much more prominent translucent effect and I could call that a blur effect.

I have been trying the registry hack for this and it works until restart. I prefer the transparency without the blur. Here's a screen of the start without blur. Anyone had any luck getting the no blur effect to stick? Even with restart?

I've been looking all over the Internet for a way to do this, but haven't found anything yet *cry

I wish Microsoft would give us this setting with Redstone out of the box.

Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize" and look for the DWORD value "EnableTransparency"...if it is not there then create a DWORD entry with that title and set its value to (0). It will take effect immediately but will reset itself on reboot. I just created a favorites link for it and set it on each reboot until a permanent fix comes out.

Why don't you just create a .reg file and pin it to your desktop or start menu?

    Here you go:
EnableTransparency.reg <-- click to download, then right click, choose unblock, pin or place it where ever you wish, then double click to apply(you will need to give permission).

Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize] "EnableTransparency"=dword:00000000[/quote]

It's the setting from the above post. I don't use it as I like my blur, but just edit the last "0" to a "1" and it should put you back where you were(or do it manually).

I used to have a .reg file for it but since have stopped using it since it still has to be ran on every reboot...I'm now just holding out until a permanent fix is found and just using blur as is...except a little lighter with the "EnableBlurBehind" reg entry set to "1". It lightens the blur just a tad.

    Hmm....
I already had that value in my Registry. It's retained through a restart & is controlled by tht Transparency switch under settings -> Personalization -> Colors -> "Make Start, Taskbar and Action Center transparent.

But my is barely transparent & blurred --- but my graphics aren't that great.

Running Procmon, I did find that Windows also looks under the same key for a Value named EnableBlurBehind.

I tired creating it as a DWORD set to 0 but didn't seen to have any effect.
