Windows 10: Disable OS updates

I have an old desktop running on Windows 10 version 1703. It's not compatible to update to any version higher than 1703.

I keep it operating as a back up in case I run into problems with my primary desktop.

I need to block new versions from updating. From previous forum experiences I learned to disable OS updates in the registry. That worked for a while. Then I learned to disable updates in services. That has been working up to date, it just had to be done every time you turned on the computer.

Now "Services" Windows Update is stuck on (Running Manual (Trig...), all tasks are greyed out and all functions of the Startup Type are greyed out and stuck on manual. Now the PC is again trying to update and than failing and returning to version 1703. I've even tried to restore to a previous date. That opened up services to let me disable but as soon as I restart I'm back to greyed out.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

How to disable Windows Update Permanently from Windows 10 OS?

Hi,

I would like to ask question on How to disable Windows Update Permanently from Windows 10 OS?

Already tried the following:

• Stop and Disable Windows Update from services.msc
• Disable Windows Update from gpedit.msc

But once we restarted the Units, It will perform Windows Updates.

Some of our Applications are not working properly after these updates.
