Windows 10: Disable touchpad

I'm running Windows 10, version 1809 on a new hp spectre laptop, and find that my courser jumps unpredictably while I'm typing in word or outlook or when scrolling files in File Explorer, sometimes highlighting/moving/deleting things, or switching screens, all unintended. I assume this is an overly sensitive touchpad with clumsy hands. I put it at minimum sensitivity, turned off all the automatic "tricks" intended for younger hands, then ultimately bought a Bluetooth mouse, intending to use that exclusively.


But I have been unable to EFFECTIVELY disable the touchpad. I've followed multiple directions in device manager and human interface, some appear to have succeeded (changing my option from disable to enable), only to find that the touchpad still works.


Can you help me disable effectively? Thanks.

Disable touchpad

Hi,

Normally, you can disable the touchpad from Device Manager by follow the steps below:

• Go to Device Manager.
• Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
• Right-click on HID-compliant mouse and select Disable.
• Click Yes.
• Check if the touchpad is already disabled.

You can also contact the device manufacturer for further assistance if touchpad cannot be disabled.

• Press Windows Key +X.
• Select Device manager.
• Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
• Right click on Synaptic touchpad driver and select Disable.
