Windows 10: Disable Windows 11 Widgets News Widgets or Manage Interests Not Working

I am seeking a way to turn off the obnoxious news stories feed in the widgets of Windows 11. I despise them. I would like there to just be weather and nothing else. I do not see a way to turn it off, so I clicked settings, clicked "manage interests", and this page Microsoft Start msn.com loads to the Discover interests tab, with lots of sections of interests. For example, News section with interests US, World, Politics, etc., Entertainment section with Celebrities, Movies, Music, etc. I blocked all the possible interests to block stories on all these topics. But my settings were not save

Does News and Interests widget require MS News and Weather apps?

I have a laptop that doesn't have the Microsoft News or Weather app preinstalled. After installing some Windows updates, I saw that I had the "News and interests" option in the task bar. I have it turned on but the widget hasn't shown up. Turning it off then on again didn't help. Does that widget require the MS News and Weather apps in order to function?

On another PC, I have no issues with that widget appearing but that one has had the News and Weather apps installed before the widget was released.

 

Yahoo Widgets!

Do you like widgets? I don't; but, I do.
Confusing... yes... well, what I mean is they take resources, but can be useful, if you need them or want them.

Well, I got turned onto Yahoo widgets. Seems, they use Konfabulator to build 'em.
I have had no crashes, oopsies(aero conflicts, lock-ups, etc.), or distress from them... so far.

There are over 6000 Widgets, not all good, but there are good ones.
I use the Retrograde3 clock and Yahoo weather widgets.
The weather has never failed to update or load, unlike the problems I have with the sidebar gadgets in Windows.
And, most are very configurable.

Widgets being used as new advertising platform

Now that both Mac OS X and Windows Vista have widgets, or cool little gadgets you can spread around your desktop, ad companies have decided to try their hand at widgets. These ad-widgets would probably be put into a widget that actually does something, such as check facebook/myspace/sports statistics. Whether or not these advertisements would actually do anything would be hard to determine, considering tracking these widgets would be extremely illegal.
