Windows 10: Disabling handsfree telephony permanently with bluetooth headphones on Windows 11

Hey there,I recently made the switch from Windows 10 to 11 and got a problem that arose from doing the upgrade.I have a Soundcore Life Q30 headphones and in Windows 10, it used to be that there would be a "Hands free" option in the audio devices. So basically the headphones would show two virtual devices in the sound settings. One with good quality and the other one, the "hands free" one, was terrible.Now that I have made the switch to Windows 11, these two seem to have merged together and are switching between each other constantly for calls. How to PERMANENTLY disable Handsfree Telephony for a bluetooth device in Windows 11?

I need to disable Handsfree Telephony to make my Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones work in MS Teams (as resolved in this thread).

But, the setting keeps being enabled again - possibly during reboot or bluetooth re-connection.

Is there a way to PERMANENTLY disable the setting for this device?

Aside: I'm open to a fix in powershell if anyone knows the API calls for toggling the setting based on BT connection trigger.

 

Handsfree telephony reenabling

Handsfree telephony reenables itself when i restart my headphones or computer. I tried everything how do i get it to stop automatically **** itself everytime i launch a game that is convinced i have a mic on my headphones? I don't. Please I'm sick and tired of this problem. Windows 11 is inferior to Windows 10 at this point Im extremely close to switching back just to have my expensive hardware work without issues again. Please someone tell me how to permanently disable handsfree telephony so i dont get flashbanged with full volume **** audio every time i do anything outside of chrome

Hi,

I haven't found a way to switch off hands free telephony permanently - no matter what I do, it always turns itself back on.

Disabling the microphone device in sound control panel does not prevent windows 11 switching to headset mode whenever an application uses a microphone.

The solution I found was to disable the hands free driver for the device:

Using the device property page found from "Control panel" -> "Hardware and sound" -> "Devices and printers" go to the hardware page and disable the hands free system device.





After this process, even though hands free telephony turns back on, it is unable to select the hands free device and the headphones stay in audio mode, rather than headset mode.
