Disabling the Windows 10 Auto-destruct feature?

I've been on Windows 10 for nearly two weeks. I turned my back on it this morning, and when I returned in an hour it had done something which:
    • Restored Windows setting almost to a clean install state (some video settings survived)
    • Regresses an update to Google Chrome from three days ago
    • Lost all of my Google settings; Chrome Browser/Gmail/etc.
    • Lost all my Chrome Bookmarks
    • Myriad other settings/regressions, which will take me months to recover (some that date back to Windows 95)
I took a restore point yesterday, but I can't find out how to do a restore. I expect that my restore points will have been wiped out.
But if someone could tell me where to find the mechanism that allows me to fall back to a previous restore point, that would be my next step.

    :)

  2. Rearranging picture order in Windows 7 and Windows 10

The developers removed the Auto-Arrange option in Windows 7. Either of these third party fixes will add it back so you can disable it.

This sounds like your User Profile became corrupted and Windows loaded the Default user profile. Your Chrome settings are under your User Profile.
Browse to C:\Users\[YourUserName] and see if your files are there. If you downloaded the Anniversary Update then your files will be in C:\Windows.old\Users\]YourUserName]. Please drag and drop or copy and paste them from there to your User Profile

Well, I managed to find System Restore, and restored to about 16:00 yesterday.

Miraculously, I'm back where I was yesterday (yes, I know this is precisely what System Restore is supposed to do)

I had to logon when I got back to my PC (after "The Incident"). I'm wondering if I accidentally chose the wrong userid? My userids carry the same password, so I wouldn't have been alerted by "Wrong Password" prompts.

Is there any way to see the history of logon/logoff events? It has to be easy, and I'm rather addled at the moment!

Go to Start/Search and type Event Viewer and press Enter. Expand Windows Logs/Security look to the far right for Logon

    Mea Culpa...

Amongst the logons, they were mostly for userid "Steve", but I also found a few for userid "" (my emergency userid for use only when I cannot logon as "Steve").

Of course, this emergency userid is just a skeleton, and has seen absolutely minimal tailoring since I created it.

I think I'll change the desktop background for my "" to an image that just displays "This is userid " and place the image somewhere that only the userid can access...
