DisAssociate/UnAssociate/Remove option from "Open with" menu

My question is how to dis-associate (un-associate, remove) one option from the windows-explorer "open with" menu.
    For ex.:
Windows 10 -> Explorer -> file.mp4 -> "Open with" gives me these options:
VLC, GOM, Movies & TV, Photos, Windows Media Player, etc..
I want to remove Photos and Movies & TV from the menu.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks,
    Mike

    :)

  2. N79; can't run " home media " menu

    sawatdee krap,

maybe because you havent set any connections for "home media". i think it needs to connect with your computer. you also need to install SimpleCenter's Home Media Server software on your PC

maybe this will help you -

    N79; can't run " home media " menu

I'm in Thailand . I just buy N79 , but I have found my phone can run " home media " menu. When I go to " home media " menu it's push back to "connectivity" menu .

When I go to Nokia Care center . They said All N79 was bug as this. Wait to upgrade firmware as now it's already new as 10.046

    Please share information with me

DisAssociate/UnAssociate/Remove option from "Open with" menu

Well, the only way to actually remove "metro apps" from the system is using Powershell commands.

You can also download CCleaner and use its "uninstall" section to get rid of the bloatware "apps".

Maybe so, but unfortunately Powershell skill is not something I am familiar with or could be justified to learn for this unique purpose.
Besides, I might not want to remove the application from the system; just from this type of menus.

I feel that this is a capability that should have been provided by MS as a simple extension of current filetypes-programs association procedures; it would have been useful to the ordinary user, not only to the more sophisticated programmers.

    Thank you for your response.
    Best,
    Mike

Waxing nostalgic, in the good old days, Windows XP gurus would have known the Class ID's for Photos and Movies & TV in the registry. And they would have offered a homing beacon straight to the registry hive with the necessary modifications, along with a warning, "Proceed at your own peril!"

These gurus are now as rare as a Yeti.

    I think I agree 100%.
Unfortunately I have to keep using Windows, otherwise I would have left the registry and all related benefits behind a long time ago.
I am grateful for your consideration of this issue. I guess there is no other good reason to waste time on a lost cause.

    Many thanks,
    Mike

DisAssociate/UnAssociate/Remove option from "Open with" menu

I heard excellent things about CCleaner, although I never had a need to use it myself.

Have you tried what the poster suggested?

Try this open the registry editor go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts and expand it, go down to the extension you wish to modify expand it and click on the OpenWithList and in the right pane remove the entries you don't need then right click the MRUList click on Modify and remove the letters corresponding to the entry you just removed. You will need to restart or log out for it to take effect

    Answers to latest suggestions:

1- I use CCleaner regularly to clean up the registry; I use the free version which I do not think has an option for dealing with the context menu. Now, even if the full version had this feature, I would not buy it because it is not worth it. The context menu issue is bothersome but does not prevent me from doing my job.

2- I made the change to the registry as suggested, the best I could. The two MS options (Photos and Movies & TV) were not listed, so I deleted everything else outside what I added (VLC, GOM). Made the corresponding change to the MRUlist as well, saved and rebooted. (but I could not delete the Default item)
The result: no modification in the "open with" list. Maybe this method would have worked if I tried to remove one of the options I added (VLC or GOM), but I am done experimenting.

For the benefit of others, I would consider this issue solved. As I said before, I can live with it. It is somehow frustrating that MS does not provide an appropriate utility for this operation. In the end, I will just love MS less.. *Sad

    Thanks again to all participants.
    Best,
    Mike
