  1. Disc 100% all tasks 0mbs

Hello. I did a search and each case was different and I am not the best (not worst neither) on computer jargon.

I am running windows 10 and everything was going fine. Then about 3 days ago after my laptop was on for about 30 minutes it came to a halt and i had to force turn off. This has been happening now every time i turn the comp on after about 10-30 minutes.

I opened task manager today before it happened and noticed that DISC is at 100% (all the other ones are quite low).
Looking down the list at all the tasks for the disc section and all are at 0mbs literally.

I have no idea why or what today. I am considering just reformatted to factory settings, but if its hardware I do not believe there will be any point as it will just happen again.

Any help would be great. Thank you

    :)

  2. System slow or not responding at all

My laptop is very slow or does not respond at all. When I checked Task Manager it showed the disc at 100% and everything seems to be running.

Disk Space 100%, windos 10, fully updated. Memory running below 40%. Routinely an issue.

Hi Philip, you say in your Question "Disk Space 100%, Windows 10, fully updated"

Do you mean your hard drive is full or your Disk is showing 100% in Task Manager - that is Disk Activity . . .

    If it is Disk Activity:

    Open Task Manager

Click on the Disc Column Header so the arrow faces down

When your Disc is at 100%, make a note of the top 5 processes

Please post a list of those processes . . .

    Hi and welcome to Tenforums.

You might want to check the health of your hard drive, and make sure it's not failing. Speccy (free version) will tell you the SMART status quickly.

  5. Thank you for this. I downloaded it and it says good which is a bonus.
I did a error checking from the properties of the drive. I left it alone and when I cam back it said error fixed. I did another one and it said it was fine. I have no idea what error if any was fixed.

I then did a defrag and left the comp on after doing what it normally does with no problems. I have just restarted the comp and will see if it still behaves.

Glad to know the HDD is in good shape. Can you open up Reliability History and see what (if any) critical errors are showing?

Also, in Task Manager, go to the Details Tab, Right-click on any column heading, choose Select Columns, and check the boxes for I/O Reads, I/O Writes and I/O Other. Then click on each column so they sort highest to lowest, and see what shows in the top 3 or 4 for usage. It may give us some clues.

  9. Sorry for not replying, I do appreciate the help I just have been very busy.

    No I don't.

Sure I should be able to do that tomorrow. If you think still needed.

Basically now it has gotten worse, it would only freeze if vuze was open (100% disc and 0mb;s on all process)
Now it is basically always freezing, or it will work until you do something then stop and go very slow. A friend said it looks like the drive is goners.
Sometimes it will be fine on normal tasks (never on vuze)
I was thinking I may just build a small media PC instead of a laptop as all i use it for is downloading and KODI/XBMC and PLEX

Well, are you absolutely sure there is no infection? When is the last time you ran a virus scan and using what program? Malwarebytes Antimalware Free and ADWCleaner (also free) are recommended.

PassMark DiskCheckup will give you detailed information on the different SMART attributes of the drive, also indicating the TEC (Threshold Exceed Condition or, anticipated failure date) of each attribute. That would tell you for certain if it is, in fact, failing.

Another thing to try is a clean boot. If everything is normal, then start re-enabling things a few at a time, until you find the culprit.

  11. Thanks for making the process easy for me, alot of people dont understand not everyone is good with computers, even though they are everywhere.
    I did the history

Disc 100% all tasks 0mbs [IMG]

    Says
4.9.16 - PlexDlnaServer.exe stopped working (twice that day)
    4.10.16 - Shell eperienceHost.exe stopped working (twice)
    - Java Auto uploader Unsuccessful app removal
    4.12.16 tvnserver.exe stopped working
    4.15.16 Kodi.exe stopped responding
    4.16.+1716 svchost.exe stopped working

Secondly for the task manager one, I am guessing i should do that when the issue is occuring?

Again thank you for your patience.

  12. Thanks for that I downloaded and tried the diskcheckup and it said no errors found when i did the extensive test. I use windows defenders.

The computer has not frozen in a day or 2, maybe its just vuze causing the freezing? And the other day was just a a fluke that it kept freezing when vuze wasnt on.

Not a problem at all. *Smile

Please go into your installed programs and check your installations of Java. The latest version is v8u91. You'll want to manually uninstall any older versions, and then get the latest one if you don't already have it.

Also, check Plex, Kodi and Tight VNC for any updates.

Vuse torrenting could indeed be your problem, but I can't say for sure.

You could just leave Task Manager open and check those things occasionally, to see if anything flags itself.

If it continues, I would try the clean boot I suggested in post #8. That would pinpoint the problem for you. Based on your reports, the hard drive is in good shape, and not the issue.

Let us know how it goes.

  14. So in the end I did a reinstall windows 10, seems to be ok now. I believe it was VUZE though.

It very well could have been VUZE torrent software. Glad you got it sorted. Please go ahead and mark the thread as solved. Cheers!
