    Disc cloning and volume extension

I used Macrium yesterday to clone a 512 SSD onto a new 1TB SSD, using the default clone settings. This was my first time ever cloning and I was not aware that it would leave the rest of the space unallocated. After reading more about it, it became clear that I should not have used the default settings and instead should have specified in the "cloned partition properties" that I want to resize the partition to the full 1TB. However, given the situation, the simplest solution was to extend the volume in "disk management", which I did. Having now installed the new drive, everything seems to be running just fine. So I have just one question for my peace of mind:

Is there any significant disadvantage to disc cloning, then extending the volume manually, as opposed to cloning and resizing in one go (the way I should have done it)?

I initially thought of just wiping the drive and starting all over, since it doesnt take much time, but there seemed to be no indication that extending the volume will present any problems compared to doing the resizing during the cloning process.

    Thanks for any insight.

    :)

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

I kinda agree with you, but on a wholr, do not. While I have done things a bit differently than this specific situation, by installing Windows directly to the SSD, and cloning after, my testing shows that there are no issues doing this, very little that can go wrong, provided your system is stable.

There are certain features that must be disabled in this situation, like auto defrag and such, but even with a fresh install to the SSD, you need to take steps to ensure that you SSD performs properly, regardless of how the data got there.

Arming yourself with a bit of knowledge can go a long way.

Installing the latest chipset driver, and the RST Tools, will ensure optimal performance of the SSD. but rather than taking my advice, I suggest the OP takes a look here:

Keep in mind, also, Digibucc, that many retail drives include software and such that very specifically is to be used to ttranser the OS from an existing mechanical drive to an SSD, and if there really was alot fo issues stemming from the cloning process, they would not have packages like that, simply to eliminate tech support costs. While not the optimal option, cloning is NOT a bad thing, as long as you take the nessecary steps.

    Hi,

    To answer your questions:

    • No major changes or update to the system
    • It happens only with Chrome
    • No extension to play music throughout Chrome
    • I am currently using the latest Chrome version available

With regard to the suggested steps, I tried it and nothing changed.

Thanks for your help, waiting for your response.

    Kind Regards
