Discrepancy in C: Drive Storage Reporting

Hello,I’m experiencing an issue with my C: drive on Windows 11. My C: drive is 149 GB, and it shows 125 GB as used. However, when I open the C: drive and select all files and folders, the properties show a size of 80.8 GB. After enabling the option to show hidden files and folders and checking again, the properties show 85 GB.This leaves me with a discrepancy of nearly 40 GB of missing space. Here’s what I’ve done so far:Checked hidden files and foldersEnabled the display of system filesUsed the built-in Disk Cleanup toolChecked for large files manuallyI’ve also run chkdsk C: /f to look for fi

  2. Windows 10 Storage Discrepancy

I have Windows 10 Home Premium with the April 2018 update installed on and Acer Aspire tablet.he

I have noticed and odd discrepancy in the reported used and free space between the C drive properties and the Windows 10 Storage app in Settings.

The afforementioned C drive properties reports the C drive as having 21GB of used space and 7.41GB of free space.

The Windows Storage app in settings is reporting slightly differently with 21.7GB used and 7.38GB free

I also have a Micro SD card mounted which does not appear to show any discrepancy in the reported storage space.

    Any ideas for the discrepancy?

  3. Discrepancy between 'Used Space' on C drive and total of actual folders/files

According to 'Properties' in Windows Explorer, my C drive (one of four partitions on my primary drive) has 296GB 'Used Space' and 272GB 'Free Space', giving a total partition size of 568GB. However, if I add up the total space occupied by all the folders
and files on C drive that are listed in Windows Explorer they come to roughly 44GB. (The largest folder is Windows (19.5GB), followed by Users (9GB) and Program Files (5.8GB). The rest of the folders are smaller than this.). Nearly all my applications, data,
photos, videos, backups etc are on the other three partitions on the primary hard drive or on a secondary internal hard drive.

Can anyone suggest what accounts for the HUGE discrepancy between the reported 'Used Space' and the total of the actual folders/files? I first noticed this when backing up my C drive using Acronis TrueImage, which yields a back up file of 218GB - presumably
the 296GB with some compression. A few months back I recall that the Acronis backup files were sized at around 60-70GB, so there's something funny going on! If there is some giant folder or file that is lurking on my C drive, what could it be and why isn't
it showing up in Windows Explorer?

Discrepancy in C: Drive Storage Reporting

    extend c drive storage space

Hi, I'm , an Independent Advisor.

Disk Management is a Windows built-in tool that supports to increase partition size with its "Extend Volume" feature. However, the program has some limitations in increasing disk space:

    - Extend Volume only works on NTFS and RAW partition. FAT32 and other file systems are not supported.

    - The Extend Volume will grey out if there is no adjacent unallocated space behind the target partition.

So, the ways to increasing C drive with or without adjacent unallocated space are different. Open the Disk Management, and follow the right tutorials listed below to extend the local disk C drive on your own now:

#1. Increase C Drive Space with Adjacent Unallocated Space

Step 1. Right-click This PC/My Computer, click "Manage", select "Disk Management" under Storage.

Step 2. Locate and right-click on the local disk C drive, and choose "Extend Volume".

Step 3. Set and add more space to your system C drive and click "Next" to continue.

Step 4. Click "Finish" to complete the process.

Note that if that unallocated space on your system disk is not behind the C drive, you can't extend C drive in Disk Management.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help you further!
