[Registry edit] Set default color for File Menu bar to match dark mode

    Many thanks for your reply.

But you misunderstood my question. I am not talking about file explorer; but every other applications who did not necessarly fully developped their dark themes.

In that case, their windows use the default color for title bar/file menu bar who is apparently white (even in dark theme).

It is possible in options/registry to change default color for title bars or use a custom color. But it doesn't seem to affect the file menu bar (c.f. below if it is not clear enough).

N.B. There is a specific package for atom that addresses that issue. I am not looking for a specific solution; but really how to change the default color for the File Menu bar so it affects all applications that did not provide a full dark theme (if
    it is possible)

[Registry edit] Set default color for File Menu bar to match dark mode

    Hi,

When activating windows dark mode, the default window color for the Title bar and File Menu bar is unchanged. Applications (like windows' defaults: file explorer, ...) have to provide a dark theme that includes window color modification, or else both title
bar and file menu will appear white (like atom editor without specific package).

I managed to find in windows registry how to modify default Title bar color; but the File Menu bar remains white (c.f. snip below). I will continue searching; but do someone know which registry key to edit in order to change that ? (or simply how)

Many thanks in advance for your help,

    Br,

    Paul

disk C bar in explorer turned dark blue, how to return it to default color

How to return to default colors?

Thank you for your prompt and comprehensive response Greg.

The browser is Edge and the computer is a brand-new HP laptop.

I went into the browser's own Appearance settings and set Overall appearance to 'Light'. This immediately rendered the Appearance page (and all the other pages of the Settings menus) to white with black text as I wanted, but it had no effect on the appearance of my Web pages which remained black with white text and unnatural colors in the images.

Next, I followed your instructions on how to turn off Dark Mode in Windows 10, specifically:

In the "Choose your color" drop down list, choose Custom.

Under "Choose your default Windows mode," select Dark.

Under "Choose your default app mode," check the box for Light.

and the Colors page turned white with black text. But again there was no effect on Web pages which remained black with white text.

Finally, I followed the instructions under 'How to force Dark Mode on all websites you visit in Microsoft Edge', (the 'Flags' page, like the other menu pages, was perfectly white with black text). I set 'Auto Dark Mode for Web contents' to 'Disabled'. No effect on Web pages.

So I remain stuck in Dark Mode. The appearance of most Web pages is unpleasantly garish, it significantly spoils the browsing experience and I really want to escape from it. Incidentally, my wife bought a slightly different model of HP laptop a few months ago, and everything about it looks normal. Mike Leon
