Windows 10: Disk Cleanup incorrectly displays the amount of space it frees up! What do do?

Unfortunately, Russian technical support does not help me in any way, so I turned to American technical support.The problem arose three days ago after installing patches KB5052978, KB890830 and KB5050593. I decided to clean the disk C from system garbage through the "disk cleaning". 3 GB was displayed for cleaning. Cleaned, but still displayed 3 GB for cleaning. I checked for errors, but no errors were found. He looked and cleaned through your PC Manager, but he showed a noticeably smaller volume less than 0.5 GB. Disk cleanup clears much less space then claimed

Hi Arsenaltastic, thanks for your question. I'm Graeme, a Microsoft Community expert and fellow user.

It's odd that Disk Cleanup doesn't clean the same amount it reports, but there are definitely other effective ways to save disk space. Windows has built-in tools such as Storage Sense to help you manage your disk space effectively.

  • In the search box on the taskbar, type disk cleanup, and select Disk Cleanup from the list of results.
