Windows 10: Disk Defrag but task schelduler service is not running

    Can not run defrag Error: Storage Optimization cannot start because task scheduler service is not running

    Can not run defrag Error: Storage Optimization cannot start because task scheduler service is not running.

    Tried running task scheduler that just moans about there being no remote system. Won't let me do anything else.

    Defrag still won't run.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

    Defragment and Optimize Disk won't open in Local Services

    Defragment and Optimize Disks service is missing from list of Windows 10 services. It shows up on list of Administrative Tools in the Control Panel, but won't open even when using "Run as Administrator". I have run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    in the command prompt and it still does not fix the issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Defraggler, but still it does not show up on the local services list. I have run Dell Support Assist and no problems are found. All of this makes Norton Security
    unable to Optimize Disk. Norton says it is a problem with the defragment app on Windows and were no help at all.

    I am running a Dell Inspiron 5379 with 1TB HHD, 8GB ram and the latest updates of Windows 10 installed.

    Disk Defrag but task schelduler service is not running

    Defragment and Optimize Disk won't open in Local Services

    I ran the repair update, uninstalled Defraggler and now Norton "Optimize Disk" works; however, Defragment and Optimize Disks service is missing from the list of Windows 10 services. I was able to type "Defrag" in the start menu and bring up the Windows
    derangement app and rune as "Administrator" but NOT when I try to run it from the Control Panel Administrative Tools, even when using "Run as Administrator".
