Windows 10: Disk Drive 'E' Empty

Hi

This is a much discussed problem with fixes confidently offered. The problem is they don't work. Not on my computer anyway.

On 'This PC' page it shows Local Disk "E" 262MB free of 842MB, but when you click on it it's empty!

The fixes send you to the Command Prompt and eventually to the 'volume list' where you're supposed to select volume 3, remove the letter E and replace it with the Recovery Drive letter. whatever that is

My problem is, there is no volume 3 shown, or anything with the letter 'E'

These are the volumes...

Volume 0 Letter D DVD Rom,

Volume 1 Letter C NTFS Partition

Volume 2 No letter FAT Partition

Do any of them refer to the 'E' Drive?

Should I be worrying about it at all? The computer works ok

It's just untidy, I don't like it, and who knows what problems it might lead to.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I followed all the steps but when I typed in "remove letter=E" and hit enter I received the following:

Virtual Disk Service error:

Assigning or removing drive letters on the current or pagefile

volume is not allowed.

Any suggestions to counter this?

 

E Drive

The drive would have to be assigned the letter E in disk management for it to show up as E.

Press Windows key + X

Click Disk Management

If you see your drive listed there, but no drive letter, right click it

Click Change Drive Letter and Paths

Click Add

Click Assign the following drive letter

Click in the Drive letter list box

Choose a drive letter - try choosing letters near the end of the alphabet

Click OK

Click OK again

 

Removeable disk drive E says to insert disk

I've tried right clicking and safely removing it, then renaming the f drive to e. Yet when I restart it doesnt help any suggestions
