Disk in storage pool showing message as "ready to remove"

Hi.I have a micro server from HP with a storage pool of 5 hard drives. While all other hard drives show as ok in the storage pool, there's one of the disks with a warning saying "ready to remove". I haven't done anything to trigger that action. When clicking "remove", Windows takes me to a "Remove this drive" screen where I can't really take any action. If there's no problem with the hard drive, I'd like to add it back to the pool, but I can't seem to find a way to do so. Also, when trying to add the disk back to the pool, Windows claims it doesn't find any additional drive. Alos, I don't seem

  2. How to remove external hard disk from storage pool on Windows 10

    Hi Velen,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern about removing the external hard disk from storage pool, we will help you with this issue.

Try the below steps to: Remove a physical disk by using Windows PowerShell
    and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows
key from the keyboard, type Windows PowerShell and select
      Run as administrator.

    • Enter the command replacing <diskname> with the disk name:

      • Set-PhysicalDisk -FriendlyName <diskname> -Usage Retired
(If the pool is clustered, you will need to run this command on the cluster node which has the cluster resource for the pool online.)

    3. Prior to performing step 5, you must wait for all active repair jobs to complete. To monitor the status of repair jobs, type the following command:
    Get-StorageJob

    4. Type the following command: Remove-PhysicalDisk -FriendlyName <diskname>

    5. Physically disconnect the old disk.

  3. Storage pool shows correct capacity, explorer does not

I have a storage pool with two 14TB disks. I recently added another 14TB disk to the pool, it shows the disk in the storage pool and the correct capacity is listed. In explorer and any other way to access the drive, it only shows the capacity of the two disks.

Disk in storage pool showing message as "ready to remove"

Attached virtual disk doesn't show up in disk manager (storage pools)

I have a strange virtual disk problem on Server 2019 (the virtual disk commands should be the same as on Win 10). I have several *.vhdx files on different physical drives which used to be in a storage pool in order to combine them into a single large volume (it's used as a temporary volume with non-critical data). After a drive with one of the virtual disk files on it broke, I deleted the pool and wanted to reassign the remaining virtual disk files to a new pool, but these virtual disks don't show up at all: Attaching the virtual disk file (say, "D:\virtualdisk.vhdx") works without errors, either through disk management (action -> attach VHD) or through powershell (Mount-DiskImage -ImagePath D:\virtualdisk.vhdx). Detaching (Dismount-DiskImage) also works. But once it's attached, it doesn't show up as a disk in disk management (or using the Get-Disk command) as if it's still part of the pool. But as I said, the previous pool has been deleted - the storage pools section in the server manager is empty (that would be storage spaces in Win 10), and the Get-StoragePool powershell command lists only the primordial pool (i.e. storage not assigned to a pool). But interestingly, it shows 88GB under "AllocatedSize", which is the size of that particular virtual disk:
Disk in storage pool showing message as "ready to remove" 402355d1703161269t-attached-virtual-disk-doesnt-show-up-disk-manager-storage-pools-pool.png
With that disk detached, AllocatedSize becomes 0. So it means the virtual disk is still allocated to some (?) pool but the pool doesn't show up in the list where I can delete it properly...? Is there a way to "force-clean" a virtual disk from any pool assignments?
