Windows 10: Disk LED activity, always on

Hello guys, recently I have installed a Toshiba SSD, i5 cpu and a matching pair of bigger RAM sticks. Ive performed the normal tests, used Intels CPU tool to verify the CPU is legit and functioning OK, I have checked the disk using chkdsk and Ive performed also the boot memory test. A few times actually, with no issues to report. Now I've freshly installed Win7 and Win10 onto this machine, the problem DOES NOT exist when I am booted into Win10. I have tried booting into safe mode in Win7 even and the problem continues. The Disk LED stays permanently lit, I am unsure when it started to happen b

HDD Activity LED Mod

I have this idea for an HDD activity LED mod.

Basically, depending on the amount of HDD activity, it would trigger an unknown amount of LEDs to light up, spelling a phrase.

So let's say the phrase is HDD. With a little activity, H would light up, but with a lot of activity, such as boot, HDD would be lit up.

I don't know how plausible this would be, however, because from what I've seen, the HDD LED is just triggered by current on the 39th wire in an IDE drive or something. The only way this would be possible is if the amount of current were to vary.

If this were to be the case, how would this be done? Would I have to program a microchip, or just design and order a PCB? What phrases would you guys suggest (my first Idea: "oh shit!; 7 LEDs").

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
