    Disk Management: Formatting New 4TB WD HDD In External Enclosure. No Progress Indicator...


    Purchased new WD 4TB HDD and after initializing through Disk Management I initiated full format. Has been about an hour and no progress is showing. It just says "Formatting" see below. It displays following as well:Is this normal and I should just let it run over night? Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

    Problems with 4TB HDD

    I was able to move disks between my Vantec Nexstar enclosure (no hdd included) and the PC, but not between a Seagate enclosure (came w/hdd) and the PC. So, it seems like some hdd enclosures do something funny, maybe a sector offset or something.

    Windows10 unable to recognise external (USB) HDD (WD My Book 4TB) - however, I'm able to see all files from a Linux machine i have on same HDD... I dont want to lose my content on the external HDD by reformatting etc. Please help.

    4TB WD HDD not working

    Good afternoon

    Last week I bought a brand new 4TB Western digital HDD for my PC. I plugged it in, went into Disk Management and it came up no problem. I then formatted it, gave it a letter and started copying some files to the HDD. Mid way through copying, it stopped copying files for some reason and so i cancelled the copy. I then restarted my computer. Now only BIOS says there is a HDD and Windows no longer recognizes it at all. It now also takes around 5 minutes to boot my computer up whenever it is plugged in. Tried the HDD on several other computers but it was undetectable. It no longer comes up in Disk Management and so I can no longer reformat it.

    Any advice or software suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
