  1. Disk Managment hanging when I plug in my USB drive

I recently bought a handful of USB drives so I could have more space on my computer, but they're caused at least one problem, so I had two plugged in and when I opened disk managment to do something, it hung on Loading Disk Configuration Information, ( https://imgur.com/a/DEjjjOS). I know it is because of the drive becuase when I unplugged it, and opened disk managment, it worked just fine. Is there a method I could use or a reason that I could fix to let me use my USB drives on disk management?

Computer Management/Disk Management hangs on disconnecting USB drives

I unplug the disks immediately, because their policy is set (by default) to
    Quick removal
. If I've configured them for Better performance then I would perform the formal procedure of software eject prior to unplug. The only storage device that does not need a formal software eject is the SD card; it will gracefully notice
the card is gone and remove the disk entry accordingly.

I'm unsure why option 1 is suggested. Does it mean that Computer Management with all it variety of console sections are causing it to hang instead of Disk Management itself? For that matter, even when running the pure diskmgmt.dsc it will still hang - as
expected in this case - since it's pretty obvious it's Disk Management that's stumbling here.

And indeed if I perform the formal eject before unplugging, Computer Management/Disk Management has a much better chance of survival and dynamically update the disk entry list.

UPDATE: Actually, no. Disk Management can hang just as much even with software eject.

So for now I will go through the extra hassle of ejecting regardless of removal policy. But I am still confused and curious over how Disk Management handles such events, and why it's so susceptible to storage devices that by nature of external
USB connections, can get plugged out (at idle activity) really quick, especially more so with laptops on the move.

Toshiba External USB drives not showing in Explorer or Disk Management Plug-in

    Thank you for the update.

Looks like your system is unable to detect your external hard drive. Let's see if scanning for new hardware will fix the issue. Follow these steps:

    • Press the Windows key to launch the Start menu.
    • Type in Device Manager and press Enter.
    • Under Device Manager, select Action tab > Scan for hardware changes.
    • Wait for your system to install the generic driver for your device and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue still persists, we suggest that you perform the following recommendations below:

    • Plug in your external USB drives to other USB device port of your system.
    • Use other USB cables for your external device to connect to your system.

Keep us updated and we will be glad to assist you further.

Disk Managment hanging when I plug in my USB drive

help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

Any usb flash drive I plug into my computer isn't assigned a drive letter. The physical drive shows in the "safely remove hardware" but it doesnt show up in disk management. I have tried to populate the volume thru the safely remove hardware properties window and it does pop up in the list but it doesn't stay there. This isn't a format or assign a letter problem. It's more complicated then that. Maybe one of the services needed for usb drive management was disabled? Suggestions needed. btw external usb harddrives work fine.
