    Using Windows 7 Upgrade disk after Windows 10 Upgrade

    Installation disks and upgrade disks are generic. Product keys are unique and specific to the version they were issued to.

    Did the upgrade disk come with a 25 character prodcut key? In my experience they don't, I just want to confirm yours is the same. Assuming the Win 7 upgrade disk did NOT come with a product key you are ok, it is a generic upgrade disk.

    So if you have an upgrade disk for Vista to Win 7, as long as the Vista is activated and is a Windows verison that the upgrade disk is qualified to upgrade you should be OK. It will continue use your original product key. It is a little strange, but that is
    how the upgrades worked.

    how to make upgrade on sata hard from ata?

    -> You can do this:

    • Clone the ATA disk to the SATA disk.
    • Disconnect the ATA disk.
    • Boot the machine with the SATA disk.
    • Do the upgrade.

    Interesting. I am considering increasing my present 120GB V300 Sata3 2.5" SSD hard drive so I'll keep a watch on this thread and maybe learn something. I have an msi motherboard H87-G43. Upgrading from Windows 7 64bit to 64bit Windows 10 later today having already used one of the helpful relevant Tutorials to create my bootable USB.

    I need to know if you can connect a 2nd disk using SATA(then you can clone your disk) or if you will need to use an external USB HDD(then you can just create a system image of your old disk, and re-image to the new larger one).

    Just incase you don't understand what I mean, The two cables that connect to the disk, one is the SATA and the other is data.

    Do you have two sets of these in your PC case?

    I've never seen a setup like that before inside a desktop computer. What I've seen is a SATA cable, which goes between the SATA port on the motherboard and the hard drive:

    The sata port on the motherboard looks like this:

    and a power connector from the power supply that plugs into the power port on the hard drive:

    To connect a second hard drive internally in the computer you need an empty sata port on the motherboard, a sata cable, and an extra sata power connector from the power supply. A typical power supply will have one or more strings of 2 or 3 SATA power connectors on one cable so you can power multiple SATA devices off the one string.

    If you want to end with just a single hard drive in the computer, then you don't have to permanently mount the second hard drive - you can just have the final drive permanently mounted when you are done. If you are going to want both hard drives in the computer when you are done then you will need an empty mounting location in the case for the second hard drive.
