Windows 10: Disk Usage 100% despite great free space.

Hi. Since yesterday, My laptop suddenly started lagging a lot. I opened Task Manager and saw that the Disk Usage was at 100%! The only things causing it to rise are the essential Windows Programs. This causes so much lag though, that if I try to run more than 1 application at a time, nothing starts responding and it forces Me to Force Shutdown manually by holding the power button. I tried a new Browser (went from Firefox to Chrome) and still the same problem. I decided I want to upgrade to Windows 10, since I'm qualified to have it free, but whenever I try to install it, the "Checking for Updates" loading bar never finishes and if I try to close it or anything else, it'll freeze up all over again. Please help! *Sad

What should I do? I had to go into Safe Mode to be able to make an account here and type this up. I've already uninstalled some stuff, even though I barely have anything occupying a lot of space to begin with. I certainly didn't download anything malicious, as the day before it started lagging, it worked absolutely fine and haven't downloaded anything from then on.

Windows 10 Laptop 100% disk usage at 2mb

Hi,

I have been having problems with disk space for a while and it keeps getting worse with my computer regularly freezing and crashing. When i check on task manager my Disk usage is regularly at 100% despite the values adding up to only 2mb sometimes but ranges
much higher. I have tried many solutions; disabling services and start-ups, uninstalling lots of software but still nothing has changed. any suggestions would be great thanks!

 

Windows 10 on multiple hard drives.

Is you disk full or is the usage at 100%? The two are completely different.

If you are looking at Task Manager and seeing 100% "Disk" on the Performance tab, it's saying windows is using the disk constantly.

If it's the free space that you see in Explorer, then it's full and you need to do something.

System File Check
Please try following:

• Open an admin command prompt
• Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
• When it finished reboot your system
• Open again an admin command prompt
• Enter sfc/scannow again

If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation" after the second SFC, please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.
