Windows 10: Disk usage 100% please help

Hello, i have been years reading in this forum, but i have never been a member, now i need your help!
I have a laptop (Lenovo z50-70) (Bought 2 years ago)
Specs:
Intel core i5 7200U 2.5GHz - 2.71GHz
RAM: 6 GB
64 bit windows 10 home
1000 gb Hard disk
Asus page drivers

The past weeks my computer has been getting slower, specially after turning it on or coming from hibernation, it takes about half an hour for the pc to get usable. Sometimes it doesnt get better and takes a lot to open programs and in certain cases it also freezes and gets unresponsive so i have to force shut down. And when the computer turns on it takes about 20 minutes to get to home screen, sometimes it enters the "scanning disk for errors" screen before home screen. Also in task manager the Disk is always at 100% even with no programs open.
I have tried:
-Disk defrag
-Chkdisk comand (No errors found)
-Disabling the services (Superfetch, etc... )
-Full System Scan with bitdefender

I’d like to add that in all users the computer is always at 100% disk usage and starts up and boots very slow, but the freezing only happens on my user. The administrator user is fine.

How can I use my computer if windows update ALWAYS uses 100% of hard disk???

Please run Windows Update troubleshooter from Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all. See if it helps you.

Hi, log in as a 'problem user' - please post a screenshot of your task manager, organising any columns of interest high to low by clicking on the relevant column tab. Repeat for different columns if useful.
To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post to the left of the video icon. Thanks.

Similarly your task manager, Performance tab, select the appropriate disk.

Then log in as an admin user (which you say is ok) and repeat the above.

Please check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and post a screenshot.

Once we can be sure your disk is ok, we can proceed further.

Hi thanks for your reply,in my last note I meant that the computer system in general has a slow bootup and startup, but after that its ok on the admin user. However, the admin user still gets the random 100% disk usage. Also logging in to the admin user is fast. My user however logs into a white screen, stays like that for a good 10-20 minutes then the desktop boots. After that it freezes every few minutes and becomes usable after an hour I'd say. Im currently downloading the program you asked me to and will post results and task manager screenshots.

 

Hey I've just finished running the hard drive sentinel and the test says my drive is in excellent condition (image attached).



Unfortunately though I can't post a screenshot of the task manager during the time when my disk usage is at 100% because it freezes so much and lags to the point where it's unusable, but I assure you that when I (just barely enough) get to view the task manager there isn't any program or process that uses up the disk or cpu. Same with the administrator user, when the disk is at 100% there isn't any suspicious program or process.

Maybe it's your Windows Service indexer that is causing this high CPU activity.
There was a similar case here we diagnosed with Windows Performance Toolkit

But it can be something else. To be sure you have to take a boot trace using Windows Performance Toolkit. You can find the steps to do that in this HP post.

Hi, you can take a photo of your screen and upload that.

The performance results are important, as I've seen several cases (and there's a lot like them on the internet) where low disk transfer rates => 100% usage. That's a tough one.

Also run
chkdsk X:\ scan
on each disk in question to check for no file system corruption.

Note: the proper behaviour of Windows search indexing is to back off (not do anything) when there's any activity.
Indexing is only active on changes, and when building the index initially or when instructed manually. In normal operation there should be no overhead. However, if there is a problem reading a file, this can result in high resource usage. But the task manager doesn't indicate that.

Yep, that's a very low transfer rate.

You can try some experiments- copying from internal disk to USB disk (read), copying from USB disk to internal disk (write) and compare the transfer rate.

Also compare in Safe Mode

Plenty to research- and lots have struggled with this...

That is a normal transfer rate with a 1 TB Laptop HDD, there is nothing wrong with that.
The question is why it's at 100% most of the time.
