    Disk Usage is 100%


    I recently bought a new laptop with pre-installed genuine Windows 10 on it. Roughly 2 weeks.

    So as the title states every single time I open task manager I can see that my hard disk is always at 100% usage and however it does fluctuate a little bit and at times does touch the 0% for a second or so but still most of the times it is consistent in it's position. It is at 100% even when my computer is completely idle, like when I start the computer and there are absolutely no programs or anything running and the only thing that I can see on my screen is my desktop and the task manager which shows 100% HDD usage,.

    The list of things that I have on my laptop right now include:

    1 TurboC++ compiler

    2 Bluestacks with a bunch of android apps my school app where they share the online video lectures links and an app where I can view and download movies and TV shows for free

    3 Google Chrome

    4 Microsoft Office Web app

    5 Whatsapp web app

    6 Google duo webapp

    7 zoom webapp

    8 McAffee Antivirus this came pre-installed with the laptop

    9 4k Video downloader for downloading my lectures from Youtube

    And other ordinary Microsoft Productivity applications some came pre-installed some I later downloaded

    I even have around 60 GB of Video Lectures downloaded and also it's worth mentioning that I actually noticed this hard disk usage going to 100% issue after I started downloading these video lectures in bulk however I didn't actually ever check my usage before I had started downloading the lects so I can't be sure that bulk downloading might have harmed my brand new laptop's 1TB HDD Please also take note that earlier I had tried to download these same Lects in bulk on my other old PC and after just 3GB of downloading the lects that Computer's HDD failed and I had to replace it.

    I haven't, however faced any major issues with the laptop's performance, it does get slow at times, takes about 1 min to fully start and be usable after a shut down and the apps take quite a few seconds about 5seconds to load and when I am downloading my lects using the 4K video downloader if I force download more than 5 lectures simultaneously in the queue it tends to stop responding for about half a minute or so. Sometimes when I click on the windows search bar in the task bar it takes too long to load and for a few seconds it goes all black or white as it's unresponsive. This same happens when I am trying to start GoogleChrome too.


    Please tell me I didn't do anything wrong by downloading the lectures because I really can't afford a new 1TB HDD right now. Hope someone reads this long msg and does reply to it!

  2. 100% disk usage

    The most common cause of 100% disk usage appears to be Superfetch and Prefetch, but there are also other causes. You can try disabling both these features and see if it helps.

    100% disk usage and memory usage

    Hi,

    100% disk usage and memory usage can be caused by a software corruption, running application running on the background and malware or virus infection.

    For us to properly isolate the issue and provide an appropriate resolution, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Did the issue happen after installing the Fall Creators?
    • Did you receive any error messages?
    • Can you send us the screenshot of the Task Manager showing the 100% disk usage and memory usage?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
