  1. Disk usage spikes to 100% and Low frame rate

I have a new Windows 10 64-bit. I had MAJOR frame rate issues while playing The Witcher 3 video game (despite my machine surpassing the recommended specs) and peeked into the Resource Monitor and discovered enormous spikes in Disk Usage (at times 100%). My internet searches indicated that these Disk spikes and the fps issues of The Witcher 3 might be due to a memory bottleneck, I safely disabled some of the burdensome processes and services but the Disk spikes continue and the performance for The Witcher 3 is improved but far from optimal.
What is something I can do to eliminate these Disk Usage spikes and improve the gaming performance of my computer?
P.S. I should first confess that I know relatively little about the intricacies of computers so feel free to dumb down your answers as much as you can. Thanks

    Radeon R9 M390

  2. Windows 10 disk keeps spiking to 100%

    Hi,

My disk keeps spiking to 100% since I upgraded to Windows 10. I upgraded in September and the problem started with little infrequent spikes where the disk would stay at 100% for a few seconds. However since September the problem has got progressively worse
and now the disk usage frequently reaches 100% and it stays at 100% for about 5 minutes.

I've tried various solutions on the internet to 100% disk but none of them have worked.

can't open start menu or settings and disk space at 100%

Also, if I open any program, disk usage spikes to 100% at least for a little while. Everything is running very slowly (if at all)

Consider turning off as many background applications as possible. If the antivirus program starts to scan while you are playing it is likely that you will have higher disk percentages.
The best that you can imagine is a clean install of the operating system followed by a clean boot followed by installation of only the one game application.
So whatever you can do to get as close to that is the optimal outcome.
If you want to spend a lot to time and get this to max you would need to learn how to analyze WPR. If you can analyze them you can then see any application that is increasing disk usage and make the necessary changes.

It might be that your video card, despite having dedicated RAM, is also using some of your system RAM. If at the same time the demand for RAM exceeds that available, you could have a lot of disk activity related to your page file on disk as things are moved back and forth between RAM and your page file.

Of course, adding RAM as Daz1967 suggests below will make that less likely.

It's also worth running a check on your disk (there's no information on what you have).
E.g. Hard disk sentinel (trial) will verify your disk
Crystal DiskMark will check throughput capacity.

I would seriously recommend getting 16 GB of RAM for a gaming PC even when runnng Windows 10. Most games these days use 64-bit executables which means they are no longer restricted to 4 GB. Having more system memory is always a good thing as Windows can use more to speed up loading of its apps and stuff plus you still have plenty for games. For example, on my system I have enough such that moving between different areas in The Surge, once they have loaded, takes 2 seconds... and that is with the game installed to a 7,200rpm hard drive not an SSD!
