  1. Disk volume showing red cross and unable to shrink it.

Hello everyone,I am facing an issue with the HDD of my laptop. I tried to dual boot install ubuntu in my laptop with the "install ubuntu alongside windows boot manager" option and allocated some space to it. After that, the partitions of HDD started showing a cross sign in it and the Disk 1 section is also empty, in the disk management application. I have included the screenshot here. Here is the screenshot of the Disk management app:Image

    Unable to Shrink Volume

As far as MiniTool showing more partitions, actually, Disk Management is showing less partitions. MiniTool shows the full picture, whereas Disk Management shows a partial picture, omitting those partitions that are not Fat32 nor NTFS.

    Shrinking a volume

    Hi tfd3

    Close Disk Management

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

From the resulting list, right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Paste this command and hit Enter:

    diskpart

Paste this command and hit Enter:

    list volume

(note down the number of the Volume you intend to shrink)

Paste this command and hit Enter (replace x with correct volume number)

    select volume x

    extend filesystem

When that completes, close Command Prompt and try shrinking that partition again in Disk Management

    Shrinking a volume

Hi, Dave. I followed your instructions. All seemed to go well, but Disk Management still reports "The parameter is incorrect" when I try to shrink the volume.
