diskpart doesn't show disk

Hey,

I am trying to install Win10 on a mac book air.

However the diskpart does not list the disk even after reformatting the partition as NTFS per suggestion.

read through this solution but cannot move to step 1 listed in the solution by Ivan as that disk doesn't see that partition it was just able to reformat.

yes rather nonstandard. It started as a win7 system, dell had a recovery partition factory installed. It was upgraded to win 10 (microsoft with my wife's ok). The c disk was/is all one partition as far as file explorer shows. Continuing, in diskpart:

list disk:

# stat size free dyn gpt

0 online 931gb 0b

1 online 14gb 0b

2 nomedia 0b 0b

Disk 0 is not marked as gpt.

Then, 'select disk 0'

'list partition' gives

# type size offset

1 OEM 39mb 31kb

2 primary 21gb 40mb

3 primary 909gb 21gb

'exit' from diskpart to cmd line then 'dir c: /a' produces a list of 10 files and 7 dirs and 12gb free. Bootmgr is one of the files listed along with various stuff looking like recovery information. Dell is one of the directories. (As you mentioned the
drive letters are from diskpart.) So this seems to be the original dell recovery partition.

I am thinking that the best way to avoid future problems is to do a fresh install from the flash drive. As part of this can I reformat the disk to ntfs?

@Caledon Ken's reply was the correct answer to the specific question asked in the OP. Below, my disk 1 has 10 GB of free space I could create a partition in. There is a difference in free space on the disk that can be used to create a partition in, and free space inside partitions not used by the file system. The OP asked about free space on a disk that can be used to create a partition.
