Windows 10: DISM.exe hanging

    DISM.exe hanging


    I'm having an issue installing a particular package for Visual Studio, and the support I was given requested me to run a series of commands in elevated cmd:


    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
    sfc /scannow

    However in all cases, nothing seems to happen - there's no output given, and nothing seems to happen regardless of the amount of time I leave it.

    some .exe files hang


    In the last 48 hours, some .exe files do not execute. If started from explorer, explorer hangs. No error messages. These files run on another Win 10 machine. Nothing obvious in the event viewer. I note that *.exe file cannot be deleted when the system is in this state. I must reboot to regain access to the .exe file. sfc /scannnow shows no errors.

    Any suggestions?

    Programs not working


    In post 26 there were steps listed to fix the operating system corruption.
    Are you able to follow them?
    In post 29 was the suggested dism repair command.

    How to get damn DISM to work?

    Thx guys, I'll compress this data into a blog post. For all the so called guides I've read, not a single one mentioned it has to be WIM file (some listed even ESD which clearly doesn't work) or that certain ISO images don't work with DISM.

    After I've done DISM thingie, SFC also managed to repair stuff. Which is what I've needed here.
