Display is stuck in 4:3 when it should be 16:9

My monitor has switched from displaying a 16:9, 1920x1080 image like it should, to a 4:3, 1024x768 image. Things I've tried:- Restarting- Using Ctrl + Shift + Windows + B to refresh graphics drivers- Installing new drivers- Installing old drivers- Power cycling my monitor- Power cycling my computer- The thing that the solution to every thread about this issue has told me, going to Settings > Display > Display Resolution. As shown above, 1920x1080 doesn't show up. I know that there's a resolution setting in the registry editor, but I won't bother, since there's probably a much easier way t

  2. How to prevent stretching Game's resolution in 4:3 to 16:9?

I have a 16:9 monitor (1366x768) but when I try to change the resolution of Outlast to 4:3 (1024x576) it gets stretched to full display, kind of too wide.

So, I would like to play it at 4:3 along with Black Bars on the sides. I used to know a method to do this using the windows registry editor, but now I seem to have forgotten it.

Kindly help me out to remove the stretching of the game and to fit it in 4:3 on my 16:9 monitor.

    Thanks,

    .

I have a monitor that needs to run 16:10 not 16:9 can this be done in Windows 10.

    Hi AlanWalsh3,

Is this for a Laptop projecting on an External monitor or is this a desktop? If laptop, are you projecting as Duplicate, Extend or 2nd monitor only?

16:9 is the new standard aspect ratio. You can barely see 16:10 (i.e. 1920x1200) nowadays that is why in Windows 10 Setting, most of the aspect ratios are for 4:3 and 16:9. If the 16:10 aspect ratios (280:800, 1440:900, 1680:1050, 1920:1200 or 2560:1600) are
available from the list of Display resolution options, it means there is no way of setting it to 16:10.

    Your pick: 16:10 or 16:9?

    Voted 16:10.

1920x1200 can be considered better than 1920x1080 because of the higher pixel count in the same way that people praise 2560x1440 and 2560x1600. As a side note, 16:10 does retro-gaming better. 1920x1200 can display older 4:3-only games at 1600x1200 (a common resolution), something 1920x1080 can't. Most older games don't have a 1440x1080 setting and the next steps down are 1280x1024 (technically 5:4 but some 4:3 games supported it), the uncommon 1152x864, and the ubiquitous 1024x768. The highest common 4:3 resolution is 2048x1536 which fits in 2560x1600 but not 2560x1440.

As others have mentioned, 16:9 overtook 16:10 for mainstream computer monitors because of the whole convergence thing with TVs saves manufacturers money on production costs. 16:10 monitors these days are predominantly the realm of professional graphics editing. It skyrockets the price more due to the need for accurate color reproduction and makes buying 16:10 monitors financially painful. At least you know you're getting a technically nice monitor. There's also less choice in 16:10. You can find a 27-inch 2560x1440 monitor easily but there's no 27-inch 2560x1600 monitor; they only start at 30-inch.
