Windows 10: Display isn't active - can't detect external displays

nothing on the web, MS answers included, unfortunately, can help.


About 2 weeks ago my Surface Go suddenly stopped detecting displays - at first Dell monitor and, after another week, a Sony TV and others.


I'm using Windows 10, v 1809 with all updates installed. Both devices were connected via the docking station and HDMI cable.

External Displays are shower detected and available in Device Manager, and in a Display Settings, but theAdvanced Display Settings panel lists the 2nd display asinactive.



I've already tried:

• rolling back, reinstalling and updating Intel HD Graphics 615 drivers pre problem version, provided by windows update and newest version from Intel
• deleting unused devices in Device Manager
• Trying several HDMI cables
• Testing other ports on the docking station all working properly

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Laptop display does not detect itself

Hi,

In regards to your concern, since the second screen can't detect the display settings of your other laptop, we suggest that you perform the steps below and see if it helps:

• Go to Settings.
• Click on System.
• Under System, choose Display.
• Under Multiple displays, click on Duplicate these displays and apply.

Windows 10 Not Detecting My Display

I have an HP laptop with a USB hub to which my peripherals are connected ( printer, external drive, external display, etc.) Windows 7 upgraded to 10 last night. External display isn't working. It's getting a signal as the light is green, not orange, but
when I ask Windows to detect it, it can't. Any suggestions? Thanks.

 

Laptop display does not detect itself

Hi,

I only have 1 computer (the laptop) and 1 external monitor. The laptop cannot detect its own screen.

So when I follow your steps, this is what happens:

• Go to Settings. (Done)
• Click on System. (Done)
• Under System, choose Display. (Done)
• Under Multiple displays, click on Duplicate these displays and apply. (Done)
• But then I undock my laptop and redock. Re-login, etc.
• Only the external display turns on. The laptop does not turn on its own display. In order to get the laptop display to wake up, I need to follow steps 1-4 again. The settign "Duplicate these displays" does not seem to be retained.
