Windows 10: Display on HDR capable monitor goes blank white after turning on Windows HDR support

I have an HDR compatible Acer 1440p monitor.When I turn on HDR support in the Windows 11 display settings, the display goes blank, bright white. The only way to get it back to a useable state is to go into the monitor's menu and turn off HDR support on the display, then turn off HDR support in windows.This had worked before in the past. I had to temporarily stop using the Acer monitor because of space considerations. The problem started when I plugged it back in.So... How do I get HDR reenabled on my system? I prefer it on because it makes a difference in videos and games that support it.

Hdr not supported right after new monitor plugged in

To check if the display is capable of HDR content on Windows, use these steps:



Open Start.

Search for dxdiag and click the top result to open the app.

Click the System tab.

Click the Save All Information button.

DirectX save all information

Select a location to save the output file.

Click the Save button.

Open the file with Notepad.

Search for Advanced Color and determine if HDR is supported:

AdvancedColorSupported – indicates display driver with support for HDR10 is installed.

AdvancedColorEnabled – indicates that HDR is enabled.

Search for Monitor Capabilities and confirm it reads HDR Supported to determine that HDR10 is supported. If one or more requirements are missing, then you'll see the HDR Not Supported message.Quick note: If you also see "BT2020RGB" or "BT2020YCC", then the panel is capable of HDR10, and the "Eotf2084Supported" indicates that the display is capable of HDR.

- Check if you are using an HDMI cable that supports HDR (HDMI 2.0 or higher) and that it is properly connected to an HDMI port on both your display and graphics card. Try using a different HDMI port on your display or a different HDMI cable to rule out any potential issues with the connection.



- Check if HDR is enabled on your TV and monitor settings. Some displays may require you to manually turn on HDR mode or select a specific input for HDR content. Refer to your display's manual for more information.



- Check if HDR is enabled on Windows 11. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display and turning on the Use HDR toggle¹. You may also need to adjust the HDR brightness and SDR brightness sliders to get the best picture quality.



- Check if the app or game you are using supports HDR. Not all apps and games are optimized for HDR, and some may require additional settings or updates to work properly.

Enabled HDR Display goes blank caanot disable HDR

Hello,

I appreciate any help I can get on this.

1. New monitor (ASUS VGA1 series)

2. Windows 10 (older graphics card NVIDIA GEForce 1060)

3. Upon initial boot using new monitor, signon successful, windows fine

4. Used 'display settings' and enabled HDR.

5. Display went blank

6. Upon reboot Windows Logo appears then no display at all (HDMI No signal)

7. Connected old monitor ASUS VGA278

8. Windows reboot successful

9. Disabled graphics card in device manager

10. Reconnect to new monitor was successful

11. No way to turn off HDR because prompt does not appear in 'display settings'

12. Verified operation of monitor using another newer PC with newer graphics card.

It seems windows recognizes the incompatibility of the graphics card/HDR setting and does not allow the signal to pass to the monitor during the device recognition stage.

Cant find a way to turn HDR off. Any help?

HDR support for windows 11

I search the forum and there are many questions about HDR but I could not find the solution of my issue.

I have LG 34WP65C-B that is capable of HDR10. When go to System>Display>HDR. I get Play streaming HDR video not supported, Use HDR not supported. But when I run DxDiag I get the following result:

Monitor Model: LG ULTRAWIDE

Monitor Id: GSM7767

Native Mode: 3440 x 1440(p) (84.957Hz)

Output Type: HDMI

Monitor Capabilities: HDR Supported (BT2020RGB BT2020YCC Eotf2084Supported )

Display Pixel Format: DISPLAYCONFIG_PIXELFORMAT_32BPP

Advanced Color: Not Supported.

I am using HDMI cable that came with the monitor. Now monitor is clearly HDR capable but Advanced color Not supported. My question is that how can I enable the advanced colour support.
