Display Settings Problem - Can't change my resolution back!

    Hi guys,

Ok I'm gonna just put it out there, I was surfing porn sites and when I was opening multiple tabs (so I don't know which one it was) my screen just turned off for a split second and when it came back on the resolution was all changed, everything looks so big now!

What's weird is that when I try to change the screen resolution back by going into the "Display Setting" menu by right-clicking the desktop, it's completely missing the display setting part where it shows the actual monitors (you know, the ones that has a picture of a monitor with "1" and "2" on it). I took a screenshot of it too.

Is this caused by some sort of virus? Did it wipe out my display drivers or something?

Please help, it'll be much much appreciated as it's so hard use my computer now with such a massive screen.

    Thanks guys in advance!

    :)

  2. Aspect ratio of monitor

    Hi,

It's obvious that the screen resolution has been altered. If you can't revert back the screen display to its normal resolution through the monitor controls, then you can just change the screen resolution through the Display settings. Just right-click on
the screen, click Display settings, then change the Resolution to the recommended setting.

Let us know if you're able to change the screen display of your PC. Get back to us with the result.

  3. Windows 10 - Screen Resolution Problem

    Hello,

I have kind of the same problem, when I had Windows 7 some hours ago I had a resolution that filled my screen. Now since I have Windows 10 and go to the display settings and wanna change the resolution there I noticed that the dropdown box with different
    resolution is greyed out?

So I can't set it to a greater resolution, but not even can set to a lower one. The problem is my display only fills my screen like a 21inch and now I have a big black screen around my display, so that's not fun when i have a 24inch screen.

Don't find anything or any solution to change it back to full screen (bigger resolution probebly). Thanks in advance for the possible help

    Sincerely,

Display Settings Problem - Can't change my resolution back!

I'm starting to find this kind of funny.
I had the same problem this morning, and when I finally just searched the forums, I found out that 2 dozen other people are having the same issues this week.
Find your display adapter in Device Manager and right click Properties, then go to the driver header and see if the "roll back" option is available. That's your solution (or at least it was for me and a dozen others).

It would appear Windows Update managed to upset screen resolutions across the world in one fell swoop.

I had all the same problems, including the reduced resolution and inability to toggle multiple displays.

    Hi eric9000k,

Thanks for your reply, but still didn't work, the "Roll Over" button is inactive (see below).

Even if I select "Update Driver" it says that I've got the latest driver installed.

Would you know any alternative way?

    Uninstall the driver, and reboot.

  7. It's not that easy after the latest Win update, because at least in my wife's computer, they erased all of the previous drivers.

We had to do a Win rollback, then rollback the drivers after that, to find the correct driver.

    Nothing else would work !

I guess if you're unlucky enough to not be able to roll back the drivers then you probably need to restore your system.

I wonder if you can find the exact driver name (it's in some other threads) and just try to find a way to have Windows use that one.

Ok so I reinstalled windows and still didn't work.

I googled so many pages but can't find the answer to it.

I mean, how can my "Select and rearrange displays" option can go missing from my Display Settings??? What did a potential virus wipe out of my system?

It's not a virus. Why do you think it's a virus?
This happened to probably hundreds of people at the same time when Windows updated the display adapter driver. The solution is to roll back the driver, not to reinstall windows.

Plus, if you've googled many pages, you'd find the answer in this exact forum in about seven different threads that were all made at the same time as yours.
